Rating: Summary: Although childlike in it's rage, Savage is telling the truth Review: Michael is saying what millions of average, everyday, grass roots American's feel in spite of what the intellectual elitist of the left say about him, and in spite of the way they try to protray and condemn him. Whenever anyone touches a nerve with them they begin the old character assassination game simply because they cannot fight him on the issues nor the truth of what is being said.Savage is no different than some of the raving maniacs of the far-left like Kristen VanDen Heuvel, Maxine Waters, Charles Rangel and Barbara Lee, who have said some of the most racist, hateful and disgusting things about conservatives for decades. Even though he presents his material like Jerry Springer might, it is no reason to discount it. So what if he acts like a teenager in a rage. Most people feel his frustration about what is going on in our country, society and communities today. Hillary Clinton talks about the people who impeached her hubby as perverting the constituiton, well she and those on the left like her and her husband have been doing so for 100 years and have mutilated it beyond recognition for their own benefit. Most Americans believe this, which is why they believe her book and more than likely the one coming form Bill are and will be actually works of fiction not fact. Of course most Americans just hold all of their frustration in and try to deal with it differently. Savage reminds everyone of that age old quote from a once popular radio commentator who told his audience, "go to your windows and stick your heads out and scream, I'm tired as hell...and I'm not going to take it anymore!" In Savage those upset with mindless liberalism, find a voice crying in the wilderness, albeit a pretty gruff, attack dog-like, pointed, straight-forward and costic one. He isn't afraid to stand up and say what they are thinking and so he resonates with the American people. I personally prefer the kinder-gentler more sophisticated and humourous attacks on failing liberalilsm and the democrats presented by Shaun Hannity, Bill Scarbourogh, Ann Coulter, Bill Bennett and Gerorge Will myself, but I can stomach Mr. Savage because he speaks the truth. Those who criticize him here are simply the partisans of the left letting loose their frustrations and anger at his popularity and support from the American public. So be it. It is an interesting if not a five star book. I gave him the benefit of the doubt and raised an origianl three to a four on honesty grounds. The truth hurts and angers the left. A good read for anyone who wants to know the undercurrents of dissatisfaction out here in the real America and not the halls of confustion and ineptitude in Washington D.C. and the political pundit circuits.
Rating: Summary: Don't Be Fooled By The Red Diaper Babies Review: Don't be fooled by the red diaper babies writing negative reviews here. This is outstanding book that explains the path that liberals are sending the youth of America down. It has always been my belief that we have a government that is of the people, by the people, and for the people- rather than a government that is over the people.
Rating: Summary: Rantings of a lunatic Review: The whole thing is a longwinded hissy fit against people he doesn't like - all based on his febrile imagination, rather than fact. I read Savage is suing groups that critcised his cable show on the grounds they scared away sponsors. That says it all. He likes to dish it out but he can't take it, like all cowards.
Rating: Summary: Savage fails to rationally make his argument... Review: Though I understand Mr. Savage's argument and happen to agree with a lot of what he has to say, I must say that he's not the most eloquent writer I've come across. The author constantly uses childish terms like "Demoncat", "Republicrat", etc... to describe the people/groups that he discusses in his book. Perhaps if Mr. Savage didn't seem so terribly angry at anyone that holds a differing viewpoint, he'd come across as a much more reasonable man. While the author's radio show may be exceptionally entertaining to listen to, his written arguments can be better expressed elsewhere. Try a book by Rush Limbaugh, Sean Hannity, or Neal Boortz. They all hold similar viewpoints, but these authors do a much better job of expressing why they hold those viewpoints without resorting to childish name calling.
Rating: Summary: The McDonald's of Conservative Thought Review: I consider myself a Conservative, and I hated this book. But then, I consider myself a Conservative and I hate the "Savage Nation" radio program. Maybe that's because I prefer cogent, reasoned argumentation over unsubstantiated, vitriolic blather. Of course, Mr. Savage would most likely question whether I'm even conservative at all, given that he apparently believes he's the last Conservative on earth. Even though I've tuned into Savage's radio show on occasion and mostly found it uninspiringly pedestrian and contentious, upon learning (quite unavoidably, considering his obnoxiously self-aggrandizing habit of continuously reminding the audience) of his book, I picked it up at the library with the hope that perhaps in print form, he might actually temper his foaming radio vitriol into some semblance of intelligent commentary. Boy, was I wrong. I didn't finish reading "The Savage Nation" -- I was too busy contending with the lingering nausea induced by the first several chapters I did read. Over 100 pages of obsucations, gross generalities and infantile pabulum was all it took. And not one cited reference or evidenciary footnote to substantiate his caustic swill. The fact that this book is a New York Times bestseller (a fact Savage never fails to remind his listeners) does nothing to lend it any credibility in my mind -- hordes of angry, lazy-brained consumers buying into his hystrionic ranting doesn't make it substantive. This is, after all, a pop culture in which Britney Spears sells oodles of CDs. However, It's not as though I vehemently disagree with all of Savage's ideological contentions -- I find the underlying concepts beneath many of his notions echo several of those which constitute my own conservative leanings. The problem is, on both his radio show and within the book Savage offers no potent insights or intellectual red meat to help articulate the percipient undergirding of conservative ideology. He instead opts for easy generalization, banal wordplay and reactionary zealotry. These are crutches the conservative constituency can do without, and make easy targets for the liberal finger-pointers. The fact that this blowhard has a Ph. D in Nutrition (an assertion he spews over the airwaves ad nauseum) doesn't impress me, at least not towards qualifying him for any profound insights into socio-political analysis. While I don't believe you must be highly versed in esoteric political theory to espouse political opinions (or even host a radio show fielding topics regarding current events), it certainly helps if you can muster a qualitative discernment regarding such. For example, whether you agree with his conclusions or not, at least Rush Limbaugh can be considered a fairly astute political commentator. Savage fails to display any such ability in print or on air. I refuse to stick up for this odious goon simply because he holds a few ideological notions that I happen to agree with. There are plenty of other sources for an intelligent exegesis of conservative thought (i.e., Thomas Sowell, William F. Buckley, Russell Kirk, Michael Oakeshott, Leo Strauss, and even David Horowitz). You won't find anything resembling that here.
Rating: Summary: Not the normal reasoned republican book. Review: Savage is insulting. I am Cuban American, a yellowdog Republican, and yet he still gets under my skin. His books are filled with nativeist, authoritarian, and conspiratorial sentiments. In one chapter he advocates the clubbing of suspects by law enforcement! This is what I expect in Castro's Cuba, not in my parents adopted homeland. If you are looking for an amusing book for a lazy afternoon buy it, but this definitely shouldn't be considered by anyone who takes politics or current events seriously. His writing is wholly dependent on provoking paranoia to such a degree that his fear mongering can be compared to Marxist and NeoLiberal diatribes.
Rating: Summary: Truth Does Need References - Excellent Book Review: This is an excellent book by a man with an excellent vision. True, it's not as well organized or defended by factual references as an essay from the Federalist society or a legal brief. But Jesus didn't write well defended essays, Socrates didn't have monstrous reference pages. This man speaks the TRUTH, which has been lost on so many. His words don't need factual reference pages, if people refuse to believe him then they are lost in the first place. If people actually question the nonsense being shoved down their throats every day, then do the legwork yourself and check the facts behind what he says. Anyone that does any digging knows he's correct. And the truth shall set you free. That is what Savage is trying to do, set America free of the bonds that we have been enslaved in for too long, to be a country without fear, without equal, to not be subdued in our thoughts and ideas by the Nazism of political correctness and liberalism. To make this country great again. If 9-11 woke you up and you are sick of having to hide your thoughts because you feel bad or are afraid of what other people will say, then read this book. It's a great outlet of emotion, along with his radio show, which I highly recommend. Tim, St. Louis
Rating: Summary: Does Savage make me mad or not???? Review: While sitting at Barnes & Noble the other day, sipping on my coconut frappacino I might add, I decided to pick up this book and read though some of the chapters to see what all the hype is about - have to admit that I found myself choking on the coconut pieces of my drink while laughing at the chapters I did read!! I don't know if this guy makes me mad - or not??? You defiantly can understand where he is coming from even if you do not agree with everything he says. He has this way about him that is also funny - and he states what he thinks, the reasons why AND sometimes comes off as a jerk - BUT I have to admit that I liked the book and would recommend it. I watched him a few times on TV before I actually sat and read the book. He will defiantly get you thinking! Pick one up.
Rating: Summary: MUST READ!!! Review: An eye opening experience for anyone, regardless of political stance. Even if you don't know or don't like Michael Savage, you have to respect him for his courage to discuss the fundamental problems that our leaders of today avoid. There's a reason why this book is a NYT Bestseller!
Rating: Summary: A Savage a day...keeps libs at bay Review: Mike Savage has done it again! He clearly spells out for all readers the the price of liberty is continuous viligence---maintaining our borders, defending religious faith, and upholding American values. Liberals will dispel the book as a rant; it clearly isn't. Instead, this tome, written by perhaps one of the most educated talk show hosts in the country, makes painfully clear (and 'in your face' style) that the America as we know it, is on the decline. Michael presents the solution to remedy that problem in his book. Buy it. Read it. Live it. Your children will thank you...
