Rating: Summary: Wake up America Review: Michael, Thank you for taking a stand for our country! You are telling it like it is. Thank God you are bold enough to speak your mind in the age of political correctness. American jobs are being siphoned out of the country in record numbers and the borders are wide open to anyone that wants to come here regardless of background or condition. The liberals have created a system where people don't have to learn English or have a love for America to enjoy the benefits of what our military has died for - FREEDOM! Hollywood - why are they so against freeing the Iraqi people from a murderous dictator? How do the Hollywood [people]clame to have compassion and then ignore the rape and murder of the Iraqi people. Thank you for the book and for taking the risk of truth in troubled times. Average Proud American
Rating: Summary: Stunning. Review: Can someone save this country from this "book"? Everyone's entitled to their opinion, but wow- I'm impressed that someone so uninformed gets paid to ramble on about things he evidently knows nothing about.
Rating: Summary: Good Points, Not as Much Substance as I Envisioned Review: Mr. Savage, I found out early in the reading of his book is very well educated, which gives his points more credence than I otherwise would note. I have also, since reading, listened to his radio show. As for the analysis: His Ideas: Savage is highly controversial and provides the tone in a very provocative manner. I enjoyed his lucid and amusing commentary although he is more prone to attacking than laying definitive substance to illustrate his points. He has a tendency to attack individuals in addition to their ideas, which in my mind, gives him less credibility. However, the amusing character of the sections and the short, easily read sections, allow for a very entertaining read. Substance: Unlike other conservative authors like Ann Coulter, Sean Hannity, and Michelle Malkin, Mr. Savage does not use citing and a highly fact based presentation but relies on his own words. This is a novel approach in this genre, relative to other recent books, and provides a more entertaining read but i belive this would turn away the more moderate reader or one who is not familiar with Savage's ideas. He discusses EVERYTHING. This is a high point, he leaves nothing out. However, there are times when I would hope that he develop his points more throughly because I like to not only know his ideas but be able to use the noted facts for my own arguments on similar issues. Who Should Read this Book: What kind of reader are you? If you are the reader who wants that entertaining read, and wants to know the basis of Savage's understanding of the issues our society faces, then please read this book. On the other hand, if you want the more academic, well documented research that would be used to sway one who is a fence sitter on any of these issues, then it is unlikely that Mr. Savage would sway your point of view. I tend to not love the in your face style because it tends to make one dismissive of the arguments themselves. But if you want to see how one thinks, and one who is intelligent, Savage has a very nice writing style, and his writing will not displease you. Also, if you happen to be a liberal (or any democrat) then please read the book because you will enjoy yelling at the pages. For the conservatives out there, you will enjoy chiming in with Savage. He is that angry white man that liberals despise.
Rating: Summary: Truth Serum In A Book Review: What angers so many liberals about this book is that it is the hard-hitting truth and it cannot be ignored (even though the liberals wish they could). Savage's theme for America is, "wake up and smell the liberals". The smell is bad and what they have brought to America is ugly. The ugly includes, the rise in porn, decline in the family structure, attack on religion, attack on God, attack on our government, unchecked immigration, rise of unpatriotic citizens, etc. Savage makes his case and proves it well. This book is the truth serum for America without a prescription!
Rating: Summary: Word swap Review: If you leave the text of this book 'as-is' and change out the following words, you get an interesting commentary on the American political landscape. OUT/IN Democrat for American Liberal for Christian Feminist for Imperialist Homosexual for Infidel GOP for The Church Republican for The Faithful Wow. Sounds like somthing that Osama would say. Savage uses the same words, the same ideas and the same inflammatory language that fundamentalist conservatives use ALL OVER THE WORLD. Perhaps it is time that we look at ourselves as individuals and make a judgment rather than pointing at others and screaming. At this point in American society, the guy with the loudest mouth wins. Perhaps we should talk to the quiet guys and see what they have to say.
Rating: Summary: Dyslexic, mean-spirited 10-yr old trapped in old man's body Review: Michael Savage's "book" is nothing more than an unfocused collection of hate-filled diatribes that begin with nothing and end with even less. Having heard his radio show on a long road trip, I was surprised to find he's even read a book, much less written one. Unlike his mistaken contemporaries Rush Limbaugh and Bill O'Reilly, Savage doesn't even pretend to have any facts to back up his ridiculous claims. Instead, he jumps from topic to topic like an infant follows a series of shiny things. Two dull pages of a meatball sub recipe lead to a comparison between the sandwich and America. The less said about the "writing" the better, though if I were told "Savage Nation" was cobbled together from essays collected in a grade-school Klan-sponsored Win-a-trip-to-the-Ozarks contest, I wouldn't be surprised. The root of Savage's hatred of liberals is obvious: He went to college at Berkeley in an era of so-called free love. He was unable to score with the ladies. Liberals are to blame. It's just that simple. If this is the best the conservatives have to offer, it's going to thankfully be another short time spent in office for the Bush family. Do yourself a favor and read Noam Chomsky, Michael Moore or Eric Alterman instead. Your heart, brain and soul will thank you for it.
Rating: Summary: Some good ideas, but bad delivery Review: I suppose I should start this off by saying that I consider myself to be a conservative, most notably on fiscal matters. I had never heard Savage's radio show, so I had no opinion of the guy to start out with. My overall opinion of him now is that he is a loud, intelligent, hypocrite, that knows how to push his audience's buttons while demeaning anyone who does not agree with his exact value system. His idea's on immigration are right on in my opinion. Let the people in who have something to contribute to society and who want to be part of American culture. Don't let those in who want to collect a welfare check, not learn English, and gripe that they don't get free health care. His idea's on religion are wrong. He basically states that if you are not religious, then you lack morals. Morals and religion are not mutually exclusive if you ask me. I happen to be an atheist, and also moral. You can get the same morals from a book of Aesop's fables as you can the bible. You are not automatically amoral or evil simply because you do not subscribe to a religion. His idea's on profiling people are hypocritical. He feels the US should use racial profiling when dealing with Muslim's. I agree. So far only Muslim people are the one blowing themselves up to kill innocent people. To ignore this, would be ignoring a valuable tool in the fight to prevent such things from happening. Then he goes on the say that profiling priests is horrible, in light of the child molestations that have occurred. Isn't this the same thing? You have a certain group of people that are committing a crime, while others in that group my not condone it but are not doing much to prevent it either. When speaking about Muslims he says "He is tired of hearing 99.9% are good people, but it is the 0.1% he is worried about". When it comes to 3% of priests being child molesters though he is not so worried. 3% of priests being child molesters is certainly higher than in the general population and does warrant closer inspection. The book did present some timely, interesting topics that will make you think, but I doubt it will change anyone's mind on any of these topics. You will just find yourself either agreeing with them or calling Savage an idiot. From and editorial viewpoint the book looked like it was really rushed to press and seemed to be disjointed at times and at other times repetitive. Editing could really use some work.
Rating: Summary: The Most Offensive Man in America Review: If you believe Nazi Germany was on its way to becoming a Utopian society before WWII interrupted its cleanup, this is the book for you. The Savage one fears everything that is good about the United States and wants it eliminated. The same freedom of speech that he abhors when it comes from people who disagree with him is what allows him to spew venom at his enemies. The only thing that interests me about these "kill 'em all" extremists is how they have an audience. They make Limbaugh and his ilk, who merely leave out facts that may cloud their propaganda, seem harmless....
Rating: Summary: Review the book, not the man Review: Why can't readers comment on the content of a book and not the writer's ideology when it comes to conservative nonfictions such as this one? I don't like this book any more than I like the writer -- it's just the latest poorly written, poorly edited version of Angry White Man radio spinning off into publishing, which means it was outdated the day it appeared in stores. But it could just as easily be a book-length liberal rant as conservative -- ultimately, it's the book, people, the book that counts. And this book is bad. (Two stars because at the very least, it's not boring. As one other reviewer wrote, you turn the pages with the same motivation that causes you to slow down as you drive past a car wreck.)
Rating: Summary: America's truth serum in a book Review: If you ever wanted to know why America has been plagued by so many problems across the last 40 years, read this book. He answers the "why's" to increased porn, decreased morality, increased destruction against religion, the deceit brought on America by the Democrats, the hidden agenda of liberals to bring globalization to a reality, etc. Savage proves his case and does it well. This book is a "wake up all" to all America and well worth reading.
