Rating: Summary: The Thomas Paine of the 21st century Review: I just finished reading Michael Savage's Book, the Savage Nation and it is absolutely one of the most entertaining, political books, I have ever read. I could not put it down, and I am going to read and re read it again and again. If you have ever heard his radio program, or seen his short lived MSNBC show, He writes just like he speaks; which makes this book Savage Nation extremely funny and entertaining. BUT this book is much more than just entertainment; It has so much common sense in it, I would say that savage is the Thomas Paine of the 21st century. This book is a must read for anyone who cares about keeping America GREAT. In fact I would suggest you buy many copies and give them out as gifts, especially to anyone entering our once great university system.
Rating: Summary: I think ZERO would be too high of a rating! Review: This is the most awful tripe I have ever read in my life. He's a cross between Rush Limbaugh and the imperial wizard of the KKK. This book is one long tirade against women, gays, blacks, immigrants, you name it. I too am tired of extreme liberal thinking, but this book is one long rant without any facts to support his claims. It's all "those guys back then were true patriots" to crying the typical conservative agenda which goes something like this: "We're (conservatives) are getting persecuted. They will outlaw our religion. Please send $___ to my organization so that we can fight those filthy liberals away so that we conservatives can be free to push our agenda." Getting rid of a extremely liberal government and replacing it with the type Savage advocates is akin to getting rid of white supremacist laws and replacing them with anti-white laws. We need a balance between liberalism and conservativism. To be honest, this book is a lot more angry and hateful sounding than the book 'My Awakening' written by David Duke, a high ranking Klansman. Even Hitler's writing is more coherent and polite sounding than Savage. Read this book to know how people like Savage think. I learned in my academic career that you are best to read books you don't agree with, so that you can understand where they are coming from. As my father so often advised me, "Keep your friends close and your enemies closer."
Rating: Summary: Spleen Venting Review: In "The Savage Nation," ultra-conservative talk radio host Michael Savage airs his opinions on what's going wrong in America today, and who's to blame: liberals. He chronicles what the largely liberal-Democrat-controlled government has done to America from FDR to present. Among others, the list of failures includes the creation and expansion of the welfare state and its resulting tax burden and destructive sense of entitlement; the flood of illegal immigration; the secular assault on Judeo-Christian morality; the piecemeal destruction of the legal system by frivolous lawsuits, scandalous awards, and the ACLU's constitutional challenges. In each section of the book he details an example problem--such as that 25-30% of all prisoners in American jails are illegal immigrants--and then fleshes out his reasoning as to how insane liberal policies cause or exacerbate the problem (such as handing out drivers licenses to illegal aliens, who can then vote or board planes). Savage brings a fresh and provocative perspective to otherwise typical conservative gripes. His anything-but-dull book succeeds in stimulating the mind, and will certainly entertain and energize hardcore conservatives. But unlike conservative Ann Coulter who takes a more high-brow and footnoted approach to condemning the Left, Savage fails to provide enough factual evidence to back up many of his claims. Further, he makes the fun but overdone assertion that liberals are latter-day Nazis, Bolsheviks, and various other archenemies of the American Way. He contends that if one travels far enough left in the political spectrum--beyond socialism and communism--the destination is the far right: fascism. While most of his positions are fundamentally correct and fall short of demagoguery, he weakens his argument with unnecessary exaggeration. I wouldn't accuse Savage of being politically incorrect--that's a leftist hang-up, and clearly Savage could care less anyway--however, if his aim is to inject meaningful debate into the mainstream and sway open, teetering minds, a bit more tact and diplomacy is in order. If Savage were a politician, he would not be considered a statesman. His ranting and name-calling give the Left plenty of ammunition to marginalize him to the fringe right, to label him as radical and dangerously extreme. Savage has hurt his chance to be taken seriously or participate in the slow movement of the general media off left of center. Savage ends up being his own worst enemy. His emotion-charged prose provides catharsis for many conservatives, but ultimately he's simply preaching to the choir. He closes his book by claiming that "I want to elevate the dialogue, if I can, to some level that's civil." You don't do that by calling the other side Nazis. --Christopher Bonn Jonnes, author of BIG ICE and WAKE UP DEAD
Rating: Summary: the new grand wizard of the klan and he's jewish too! Review: repeat after me you right -wing idiots there is no liberal media, ann coulter has the brain of a peanut and start thinking for yourselves . now go watch fox news and fry the remaining lack of brain power hearing limbaugh.
Rating: Summary: America's Nightmare Review: No other nation in history has let in millions of illegal foreigners, especially when billions of tax dollars are being spent to guard against another terrorist attack. Those who sneak across our borders are obviously not being screened for a violent past, criminal record, disease, or any other basic thing. Author Savage says they are taking jobs from Americans, getting the best of medical care (free), and will someday turn this nation into a third world country similiar to the one they came from... I believe him to be right. Allow me to further recommend COCKPIT CONFESSIONS OF AN AIRLINE PILOT, by Keshner, a twisted, bigoted genious... buy and read this book.
Rating: Summary: Listen to the radio show instead Review: You have to REALLY like Michael Savage to survive this book's poor organization and lack of structure. To give you an idea of what this book is like, imagine an angry person rambling incoherently for 200-300 pages and selling it to the general public. For someone who is as educated as Savage constantly reminds us (4 PHD's right?) you would think their writing style would be a little sharper. I buy just about every conservative book that is published, and this one was the hardest to finish. For a better read, I would reccomend Ann Coulter, Larry Elder, Dinesh D'Souza, or David Horowitz.
Rating: Summary: Fascism For Progress? Review: This book is for those among us who identify strongly with the politcal positions of Fascism, yet who are too uncomfortable to go into the local bookstore to purchase a copy of "Mein Kamph" by Hitler. Michael Savage does a fine job of blaming the "poor state of the nation" on everyone from independent women, to homosexuals, to the poor, to immigrants who work for pennies so North America has a steady supply of orange juice. A sad document to come from a man who once swam naked with Allen Ginsburg.
Rating: Summary: Another book on how minorities are destroying america Review: A professed homophone, Savage's book is little more than the dribble he spouts on his AM talk show. Except that he doesn't even provide the humor and entertainment of a Limbaugh. Just a rant about how immigrants (especially nonwhite imigrants) are a threat to America blah blah blah. I guess there are nativists in every generation, but Savage (real name Michael Weiner)takes it to a sad new extreme.
Rating: Summary: Utterly disgusting Review: The latest craze is books that read like well-rehearsed transcriptions of the right wing radio shows that now proliferate on the AM dial. Here, Michael Savage rants about all the things that bother him, insults his enemies with obscene epithets and employs rank hyperbole about why the "liberals" are destroying the country. But there's nothing here that would enlighten anyone desiring a serious look at current events. This is only red meat for the converted who like Savage's name-calling. If you want to know this guy's views on any issue, think of the most extreme right wing position and that's Michael Savage. If you want to hear these diatribes for free, stop by a mental institution and speak with the patients. This book and his radio show reveal a man who is consumed with hatred and anger. That he is successful says as much about our political culture as anything I can think of. I would not be surprised if this book was really a parody put out by Michael Moore.
Rating: Summary: Savage says what needs to be heard Review: Savage's writing is a little scattered like his radio show, but has alot to say. Do not let the comical and outrageous style of Michael Savage decieve you. He points out problems with illegal immigration and other issues. Although this book is slanted to the right, it is a must read regardless of your political point of view. You might change your thinking on some issues. Enjoy!!!
