Summary: Childish dreams can kill...
Review: After reading the four books that lead up to "Dark Magic" I was hoping for something a little better. Although it was a really good book I felt something was missing. I dont know if it was because of Savannah taking advantage of Gregori's willingness to give her a little space or what.

Ms. Feehan does do a good job at drawing the reader into the story once again though. One can feel the torment that Gregori went through while waiting so long for a lifemate and when she finally appeared he didnt know if it was his doing or fate. He was troubled over what he had done while Raven, "Dark Prince", was pregnant and was afraid that he had taken another Carpathians lifemate away from them. He was so close to turning that he became desperate. Savannah, Mikhail and Ravens daughter, seemed a bit head strong and childish until the book was almost over. At 18, when most lifemates meet and mate, she wanted to see the world and not submit to her lifemate. When she met Gregori she knew that he was the one and that scared her since he was so much older and considered a monster by other Carpathians. But Gregori, being out of character for his lifemate, chose to allow her 5 years of freedom and that nearly cost him everything. Savannah jumped at the chance and moved to America to become a top notch magician who was known world round. When Gregori finally claimed her, he was so close to the edge that the beast in him all but killed her. Guilt from that act along with the lingering thoughts of stealing her from her true lifemate racks him. Savannah is then left with the duty to prove him wrong. When life turned good, she taught him how to live again.

Its a keeper but it could have been better.

Summary: I Expected Much More...
Review: This is, I believe, the fourth book in the series, and things are starting to get monotonous. It's a given that all of the male leads are going to be strong, handsome, powerful, protective, and somewhat tortured. All of the females have turned out to be petite, beautiful, full-breasted, resentful and independent. First we had a raven-haired beauty, then a redhead, then a blonde, and now we're back to a raven-haired beauty. You get the picture.

I had hopes for this book, since it tells the story of Gregori, "The Dark One". He's the Carpathian who's been mentioned in all of the previous books in a hushed voice - he's the most powerful of them all. Of course, he's also the most isolated of them all. We learned in the first book that he manipulated the genetics of Raven and Mikhail's unborn daughter so that she would be his perfect lifemate. He's been waiting for her to become an adult so that he could claim her.

What could have been a powerful story just fizzled. There was really no conflict, other than the usual female-running-away-from-the-Carpathian-lifestyle-with-the-lonely-hero-trying-to-protect-her storyline that has occured in all of the previous books. It especially made no sense since Savannah is Raven and Mikhail's daughter and I would have expected her to be raised much differently. Gregori was the classic tortured hero, experiencing love for the first time and trying to come to terms with it and his basic need to protect. The sex scenes are erotic, but still variations on the same theme used in previous books - a lot of mention of "white-heat", etc.

These books are very formulaic, which isn't a bad thing because they are done well. They're enjoyable light reading, easy to get lost in. While they are not great vampire stories, they are perfectly acceptable romances. And, since I'm a sucker for a dark, handsome, tortured hero, I'll probably read the rest in the series. I'm just not expecting any intellectual challenge any more.

Summary: INCREDIBLE READ!
Review: I can't say enough about this book! It was one of those reads that actually made me blush! It was wonderful and exciting and so different! It is by far the best in CF's series. I had never read any from the vampire genre, but this convinced me that romance can be found there without being gothic or gory. Do pick this up, you won't regret it!

Summary: Magic and Vampires!!
Review: The whole "Dark" series is captivating. After reading this one first, I had to get all of them to find out what was happening to all of the other Men of the series.

Summary: Brilliant, another winner, Gregori And Savanah are the best.
Review: I absolutely adore all of Christine's work, especially this one. I have been looking forward to it since I bought all 5 books in the series.
Gregori and Savanah are made for each other literally as Gregori's Prince and friend is now his father-in-law.

Savanah was concieved to become Gregori's lifemate. She is his only salvation. Thank you Christine for such wonderful stories.

Summary: The best in the series.
Review: I typically don't like romance books and in fact avoid the romance aisles completely at the book stores. I got a recommendation from Amazon.Com for the "Dark" Series (as I am an avid reader of vampire fiction) about a month ago and while it did sound interesting I decided to avoid it because they were listed as romance. What a fatal mistake I almost made. I just happened to be at the local Waldenbooks the day "Dark Fire" came out and they had the whole series on display and the manager recommended I try them since I really enjoy vampire books and to just ignore the romance "tag" to it. Since I was looking for something new and interesting I decided to try Dark Fire. I was very pleasantly surprised at how good the book was and decided to get the rest of the series as my interest was definitely piqued. While I definitely enjoyed the other books (except for Dark Gold which I found the heroine just too annoying most of the time) I was completely overwhelmed and overjoyed with how excellent Dark Magic was. The first chapter or so I was kind of apprehensive about how whiny and wimpy Savannah was but Gregori was just perfect and I decided to see how it turned out. Since Gregori has been my favorite character in all the books I was happy that "his" book met, and then exceeded, my expectations. Once Savannah actually got into Gregori's mind and saw just how dark and lonely his life had been and how he really did love "her" and not just her body or the fact that she was a Carpathian female, she turned into an absolutely fantastic lifemate, one who deserved, and was in turn deserved by, Gregori. Savannah truly is the light to Gregori's darkness and they are the perfect couple for each other. This was just a completely wonderful book and I highly recommend it to one and all.

Summary: All meat (sex) and not enough potatoe (plot)
Review: I love Gregory for all the previous books I've read from the series. But this book was too involved with the sex, and it got kind of boring after awhile. Not like Dark Gold with Adain. There were humor and human family members in the story, which makes it so much more interesting to read. I've rated Dark Gold a five star, and Dark Magic a four star. But overall I love Christine Feehan.

Summary: Good read!
Review: If you like vampire romances, you will love this one. This author has created a whole new world with her novels. I have read every one, and I am eagerly awaiting more. This story is about the daughter that was concieved in the first book of this series. I will say that I think that she could have been made to be a stronger person than she is in the book. She has been given time. More time than he thought he could give her,and now he must have her, or die. The story starts out with her companion getting killed, after her show. She is a Magician, and a carpathian. Gregori needs her, and the trials and tribulations they go through to find a middle ground between his needs and hers will keep you hooked until the end of the book. I wouldn't say that this is the best book of the series, but it is well worth a read. If you want to start at the beginning, start with the first one "Dark Prince" and you will be hooked!

Summary: Fell in love with the Dark One
Review: Gregori (the Dark One) is an "ancient" carpathian with unfathomable power who is on the verge of "turning" into a vampire - he has waited several lifetimes for his lifemate - Savannah Dubrinsky - and has even allowed her an extra 5 yrs before joining w/him - well, Gregori's unbelievable control is about to snap & he must mate w/Savannah now in order for his soul to be saved.

This was a much-awaited story in the series and I was not disappointed - Although not necessary, I find it more enjoyable to read the books in the order they were published as the next carpathian's storyline is somewhat revealed and it helps you to better understand their actions in their own story. Dark Magic is a stunning blend of erotica, magic and suspense.
