Rating: Summary: yikes! no more. Review: I like romance books. But this book was bad. There was no plot. I could even have overlooked this if the characters weren't so stupid. The actual writing is ok, but the characters drove me up the wall--well the main characters, anyway. The secondary characters were infinitely more sane. Basically the woman was a wimp and a whiner. You don't find this so much anymore so it kind of surprises me. Unfortunately, this author seems to have confused the "head strong stubborn" part with being a difficult whiny little idiot who is making everyone's life more difficult by being as dense as possible. I swear--the book would be cut in half if she just shut up and thought about things a bit. Plus, the author is not helping to develope anything real--so to speak--between them. We barely know anything about them except that they like to have sex every other page. Not what they like, not who they are, not why they are that way. Nothing except how lusty they are. And the hero! He's also a big dumb lump. He realizes they're from different cultures--different universes, and is so dense that he doesn't think he should have to explain ANYTHING to her. So while she does her whiny idiotic thing, refusing to find anything out on her own, he does the taciturn cryptic thing and makes sure she doesn't have the right information to start with. Arrogant is one thing. Arrogant is sexy if done properly (aka Viggo Mortensen in LOTR--utterly assured) but this guy's arrogance is just stupidity. And his complete inability to process anything she says makes him unattractive. Other romance books have characters that, although they tend to be on the stereotypical side, are ALIVE. You can picture them, you can see their mannerisms and predict how they will act, and therefore you can see why the characters fit together in the end. These ones only fit together because of their mutural stupidity and their willingness to hop into bed. Rejar and the old mentor were the best part of this book. I hope Rejar isn't reduced to a stupid hulk in his book.
Rating: Summary: Girls! What a Guilty Pleasure! Review: Okay....so maybe when you read the back of this book, it sounds a bit ridiculous...and to be honest, perhaps it is....but ooooh...did I love it! The men in this book had me drooling! The story was fast paced and the characters likeable. Lorgin was not only unbelievably hot, but hysterical as well. I cannot wait to read Rejar next...I wonder...will there be a book for Traed? This is a story that I would recommend without hesitation.
Rating: Summary: Very entertaining!!! Review: I love a fast paced book & this one definitely delivered. I've never been much on futuristic romance, but this one really kept me entertained. Only once in a while do I find a 'hero' that makes me drool like Lorgin did :) (although I expect Regar to be right up there with Lorgin!) I wanted to give it 5 stars, but I did have a bit of a problem with Deana. More than once I really wanted to tell her "Knock him in the head & make him listen to you!!!!" She really did give in much, much too easily on a few things that she should have put her foot down & at least made him explain things or compromise. I did not find the humor 'laugh out loud' like a lot of people (well, EXCEPT the morning after the Transference! Know THAT was laugh out loud funny!), but I did smile & chuckle quite a bit thru out. I will definitely being reading Rejar's story. Thanks, Ms. Joy, for a very entertaining read.
Rating: Summary: can be annoying, but still fairly good Review: I've read this book a few times and, depending on my mood at the time, either liked it or was annoyed by it. This book doesn't have the feel that a lot of supposedly futuristic romances have, that the only thing that makes them different from uncivilized barbarian hero stories is that they're set on a different planet. The fantasy elements are actually important to the story, although the author doesn't do as much with them as she should. The annoying part of this book is the way the main characters act. Lorgin seems determined to make sure that nothing touches Deana's life unless he allows it (at one point he tells her she can't see one of her male friends again). Deana does fight him over this occaisionally, but she always crumbles 'cause he's so big and handsome. She needed to learn to take charge. The most interesting character in this book is Rejar, who seems much more charming than Lorgin.
Rating: Summary: Excellent Book! Review: I love this book! It was the first I have read by Dara Joy, I have never enjoyed a book so much! I took it on vacation with me, and ended up enjoying it more than my vacation! Who would have ever thought that being called a gharta could be a compliment? Or the fun you could have riding a prautau! LOL, I would definitely recommend this book to anyone, you won't be dissapointed!
Rating: Summary: In a world of too few, a good read emerges Review: Okay, it's probably never going to be one of my favorites but it was more than decent. As a warning, this is not for a reader who is overly practical and knows that they would agonize over flaws and things that are foolish in the real world. It's for a person who likes romantic, intense, science-fiction/fantasy plots, or at least a person who can completely block out reality as they know it for as long they're reading. While I was reading this, I realized that there are two different futuristic themes that are consistent in modern literature. Star-Trek and Star Wars. Star Wars, goes into third world planets w/less focus on technology, more on different cultures. Star-Trek is almost all technology. Knight of a Trillion Stars is definately Star Wars futuristic, where some things just take a step back in the technological department. I'm sure this makes absolutely no sense unless you've read/seen any of these things. What I'm trying to say is that if you expect a guy in some sort of skin-tight space suit to be the hero, you'll be let down. Space-ships--no. Flying motorcyles--(Time and Again, Nora Roberts)--not happenin'. I say this because that is what I was half expecting when it has Futuristic Romance scrolled over the cover in huge letters. I wasn't unpleasantly surprised. The characters were hilarious and extremely well-developed. The plot line was almost astonisingly convoluted when you think about it, which isn't a bad thing if the author is good enough. I'm actually surprised and quite impressed that Ms. Joy was able to keep everything in line on that aspect. It was almost flawless the way everything flew together. Everything was very creative, some things--I have to admit--a bit cheesy, but overall, extremely decent. My worse complaint was that the hero was impossibly dominant at times with the heroine so that if I were in her shoes, I would have been furious. It was outrageous how he made some decisions for the heroine without any of her conscent. I still get a bit steamed when I think of one thing in particular, but it all wrapped up in the end. And I swear, it is one of the funniest reads of my life. I seriously laughed out loud. People LOOKED at me.
Rating: Summary: This book is just 100% Fun and Steamy!! Review: I never thought I would read futuristic novel...always went for the historical or present day read....but my good friend talked me into trying this out...especially when she said you better not read it in public because you will be responding out loud whether it be in the hilarity of the situation or...well you get the idea... I ended up reading the whole set and can't wait for the 4th book!! The Matrix series is fabulous!
Rating: Summary: Knight a different world in its own Review: This book that Dara Joy wrote is a mixture of a creatively detailed world with a sensual mixture intwined in the story. From the time this book was published in 95, there has not been another book out there that can come close to the detail, the depth of the worlds which Dara creates, and the overwhelming sensual feel of the book. This is a must read for anyone who have read her works before and those who have not and want something completely different.
Rating: Summary: Dara Joy is fast becoming one of my favorite authors! Review: I loved this book! I had previously read Rejar and was at first a bit confused by the references that it made to this book. Now I understand it all. This book is a timetravel book that has our heroine, Deana, having a really rotten day. She's been fired, had a horrid experience on the subway, had to wait for an accident to clear before she could get to her car and was rejected by three editors! She finds a junk shop and while waiting for her car to be released she buys a old necklace. When she gets home and cleans it up she finds out its really a beautiful piece of jewelry. She then suddenly finds herself face to face with the hero, Lorgin. He is drop dead gorgeous! She realizes that he isn't from here but a real life alien! They go to San Fransico for a scifi convention and he fits right in. Then suddenly she is wisked away to another planet and becomes involved with his quest. We meet Yaniff, the old mystic, Rejar, the half man-half Familiar, and Traed a loner who has many demons to conquer. Lorgin teases her and makes her smile so much that she is falling in love with him. I liked the way Dara described the love scenes as being both hot and breathless but tender and gentle at the same time. I can't wait to read more in this series and until they come out will be reading several of her other books. This is a definate buy!
Rating: Summary: Skip it... Review: I picked this book upon recommendation from another reader in a review about a Johanna Lindsey book. I should have stayed true to JL and not tried something new. The book is not bad, I mean you don't say 'ugh' and throw it away. However, it hasn't captured me in any way... it was just boring. Lots of mystic stuff and wizardry which could have been better used but just fell apart, the heroine seems to have some super powers which never come fully into action, the hero is just a big handsome guy who thinks his word is law... and the heroine is plain stupid. Maybe she's beautiful, but she doesn't seem to think at all... I don't see how any man could fall in love with her, she has no personality at all (well, let's not say men, let's say 'romance hero'... men are more than often satisfied with just good looks). And maybe because I didn't see any chemistry between the two, the love scenes were just as boring... I found myself skipping page over page. An interesting character was the hero's brother Rejar, far more interesting than the hero anyway, and I am going to give Dara Joy another chance and read 'Rejar', since I bought it anyway. After that I'm going back to Johanna Lindsey and the Mallorys.
