Rating: Summary: Nothing But The Truth Review: The plot in Nothing But The Truth was realistic.Your life can be ruined by the media if the wrong information gets into their hands. It is about a boy lying to get what he wants no matter who it hurts. Miss Narwin quit teaching because of what Philip caused. The characters, Philip, Ted Griffen, Miss Narwin along with other characters were dumb in this book. They were dumb because they never even thought to get the teachers side of the story. But I guess that is what made the book worth reading. The irony of thyis book is that the whole time Philip tries to get out of Miss Narwin's class. But then he switches schools the same time Miss Narwin quits. Also he wanted to be on the track team. But when he moved to Washington Academy, they have no track team. The writing style of this book is to show that ones life can be ruined by the media. It is realistic to the ways of the world. The writer tried to show that you always need to tell the truth.
Rating: Summary: Victoria Review: The book Nothing But the Truth hasted to be one of the best book I have read in a long time. I thought that the way the book was set up was really cool. The characters in the book were interesting. I liked all of them. Irony was used so much in this book. I like the book cause it is basted on one big lie. And it teaches people a lesson on what could happen in real life. And I can compare this book to my life. Cause I can put my self into his place. And I like reading book that I can compare it to my life.
Rating: Summary: Ironic Documentary Review: The novel Nothing but the Truth by AVI is a wild roller coaster of irony and lies. The story is basicly about a sudent ;Phillip Malloy, who says his first amendment rights were jepordized because he was kicked out of school suposedly because he was singing the national anthem in his english class but in all truth that is not the reason. The story line of the book is great, I mean its very realistic It seems to me like the story is something that could happen in present day times, for example when the press get hold of the lie that Phillip was removed from school for patriotism and then threw the story way out of proportion so it would sell, that seems to me like something that happens everyday. The characters also give the book a very realistic touch, they are just like your average every day people the teachers, the students, the parents, all of them. I also loved the Irony I mean the fact that phillip claims he was kicked out of school for singing the star spangled banner when in all truth he doesn't even know the words! Now thats good literature. Also I loved the way the book was composed. It was written as a documentary and love this writing style because it lets you get to know the characters not by a description but by their actions. I recommend this book to anyone who loves controversey and good jucy lies in books, so check this one out for your self.
Rating: Summary: What I thought Review: Over all I thought nothing but the truth was a great book. At first when I saw it was a doucumentary novel I thought it would be very difficult to read. But it wasn't at all. I think this book pertains to a lot of other kids I know, who go through the same thing that Phillip went through. The book was very interesting. Some days I didn't want to stop reading it because I was so caught up in it. Thats how good it is. This book taught me to always tell the truth, because you never know when your lies are going to back fire.
Rating: Summary: Nothing But The Truth Review: = Nothing But The Truth Reviewer: Billy Morris from Kentucky The plot or storyline of this book was excellent. It was very suspenseful. It made you want to continue reading until the very last page. The story was very realistic and I would recommend it to anyone. I felt that even without a straight written description of the characters very well by reading how they acted. The characters were realistic everyday people. The included a variety of people you would find at a school. This book was filled with irony. The irony made the book more entertaining. It gave the story a new kind of twist. The writing style of this book makes it more enjoyable than if it was written in normal narrative form. The writing style as well as the plot is highly original.
Rating: Summary: Nothing But the Truth Review: I thought that the book was all about who was right and who was wrong. I mean the whole plot was about who was telling the truth Mrs.Narwin or Philip. Plus Philips parents didn't even bother to go to the school and find out what really happened. But over all I thought it was a pretty good book to read even thow it was a little short. The plot or the story line I thought was alright if there was not so much liying in the story, thats what I thought about the plot. The charaters in the book all had very good persanalatys exceped Philip the main charater.
Rating: Summary: nothing but the truth Review: The book Nothing But the Truth is a good book based on a kid in the nineth grade named Philip Malloy he really dislikes his teacher Miss Narwin and canot stand going to her class. Philip is a good track runner but Miss. Narwin keeps him off of the team and if thats not enough he gets switched to her hoomroom class and he has to find a way to get out of her class. The way Avi has written the story is like a play and it tells everything that is in his life like letters and you can hear the other people and what they think about it and what is going on with them. The book is a great book if you are a person that likes books that are easy to understand and read.
Rating: Summary: "Nothing But the Truth" Review: Of all the funny, comedy filled, chuckle laden, gigglish, ironically filled novels, AVI'S, "Nothing But the Truth" is one of then that you should read. This documentary-style novel helps the story become more life-like, making the story even more ironic, and funny. The novel, "Nothing But the Truth" is about a boy, named Philip Malloy, who lives in a small town in New Hampshire, who absolutley loves running track, but cannot get on his school's track team, because of his failing grades in English class, which happens to be taught by the school's more experienced teacher, Miss Narwin. Miss Narwin also happen to be Philip's new homeroom teacher and, for him, that makes matters worse. To Philip, Miss Narwin is a boring, serious, cynical, old teacher, who,"Has it in for him," where all of his class mates says she's a nice, respectful, jocular, regular, normal, everyday, average 9th grade teacher. Philip Malloy is convinced that Miss Narwin dislikes him, so, he decides to concoct an unbeleviably, believable (to everybody else, including his school, family, what many friends he's got, the whole town, and eventually, the whole nation) scheme to transfer hisself out of her classes to get on the school's track team. Instead of taking the school's side, Philip's parents take his side, not paying attention to his breaking a school rule, and paying attention to the subject of patriotism. Soon the local national news media, and the local communities reporters get involved. Even radio talk shows, and a local neighbor, Ted Griffens, who's running for the school board, gets involved, hoping for the towns attention to earn some extra votes. Throughout the story, is one big line of prevarication, falsification, fabrication, misrepresentation, and equivocation, causing one big mess, in one small town. In AVI'S ,"Nothing But the Truth," one out of many exciting qualities in his novel would have to be that of "irony," which is used after the book's funny, climactic resolution. The novel, probably, would have to be known for the irony of the book's character's, whos lives are destroyed/ruined, because of one boy, and his failing english grades. In the end, nobody wins: Philip ends up in a new school, which, ironically, doesn't have a track team, and Miss Narwin, ironically, is forced to leave the school. Included in this novel are many documentaries, including: letters, diary entries, memos, transcripts, and phone conversations, which, like I said in the beginning, makes the story more life-like, making it more ironic, and fun. According to Kirkis Reviews, AVI'S novel is ",Wryly satyrical: nothing but the deplorable truth about our increasingly, inarticulate, media-driven society."
Rating: Summary: Nothing but the truth on nothing but the truth Review: I thought the plot was real cause of the fact that a young boy would run home and tell he parents that the teacher has it in for he. Then he parents deffenceive instink will kick in and they will blam the grades on the teacher and not the boy. I tougth the characters were very real cause of the fact they had real problems like a normal person for example the job, the bills. One example of irony is he got mrs.narwen to leave them he leaves. A nother one is he wants to play on the team then he goes to a school without a track team. I like the writing style ok it didn't bother me that they didn't tell use how he looks. Reading the memoswas the cool part cause you could read it for your self insted of reading people talking about it and not knowing what they are talking about. I would say this is a book for someone who likes to have fun!!!
Rating: Summary: the truth review Review: I liked this book alot because the writing syle was awsome. It is alot different then other books. It had times and what they were and who they were from in one little box. It also had an awsome irony in the book like when he went to that different school and they asked him to lead the singing and he didn't even know the words. he had been known around the state and world for patriotism at school and didn't know the words. I would recommend this book to anyone.
