Rating: Summary: Nothing But The Truth Review: I think this book, Nothing but the Truth by Avi should get five stars. This book is great for the family because the story is trying to tell you that this can happen to anyone, not just one person. The main character in this book is Philip Malloy. He gets suspended for being disrespectful. Philip gets Miss Narwin, his English teacher, in big trouble. What Philip did is not right because he almost gets Miss Narwin fired. Avi wrote this book in an interesting style. He tells the story through memos, letters, and conversations. I liked the part when the story is told through Philip's diary. I recommend this book because it is good for students to take turns reading and to talk about what they are reading. It is also good for teachers and parents to read with their kids. I learned that you should not ever lie to anyone. Philip should have not lied to the assistant principal, his friend Ken, his parents and the newspaper. What this book is trying to tell you is that you should never ever lie to anyone.
Rating: Summary: Nothing but the truth Review: The novel Nothing But The Truth is about a boy named Philip going to Harrison High School in New Hampshire who has a problem with a teacher named Miss Narwin. Philip has a big thing for running but when he finds out he can't run on the track team because he has a "D" in his English class, he tries to get out of her class. The way Philip decides to get out of her class is to be disruptive. He starts to hum the "The Star Spangled Banner" when he is supposed to be standing at respectful silence. He tries to use the patriotic song to his advantage by humming until he gets put out of class. When he talks to the principal, Philip asks to get out of Mrs.Narwin's class but it does not happen. He ends up getting suspended and he says he's being suspended for patriotism, but that's not it. He talks to his neighbor next door, Ted Griffin, who is running for the school board. Ted says Philip should take his problem to the board and talk to them. He instead talks to a reporter. That's when the situation blows out of anyone's control. If you're thinking about reading it, read it. It's a good book. The book is funny, too. It has little memos here and there telling about what has happened so far. My class and I read it in summer school. We all love it. I have one friend who loved singing the "The Star Spangled Banner." I want to buy it. You should too, or you can go to your public library to check it out and read it .
Rating: Summary: Nothing but the truth Review: The name of the book that I read is called Nothing But the Truth. The book is written by Avi. The main characters in the book are Philip Malloy, Mr. and Mrs.Malloy, Miss. Narwin, Dr. Doane, and Joseph Palleni. The main things that go on in the book Nothing But the Truth is Philip Malloy had a problem -he needs to pass his English class so that he will be able to be on the track team. He does not want to go through all that trouble of getting make up work from Miss Narwin, so he tries getting kicked out of her class by humming the "Star -Spangled Banner." He ends up being sent to the office because Miss Narwin gives him a warning to stop singing. He does not listen; he keeps it up. So Philip is suspended for humming/singing "The Star- Spangled Banner." This book is a really good book because it talks about things that go on in school and the type of conflicts that people get into in schools. This was a really good book because it has a lot of interesting things and it like, Memo's diary's and lots of phone conversations. I also recommend that you go and read this book, and if you like, it buy it, and share it with someone else.
Rating: Summary: Nothing but the Truth Review: The book by Avi, Nothing but the Truth, was a great book. It made me want to read. I couldn't let go of the book. Philip Malloy, the main character, was very interesting. He had everything going for him but throws it all away just for a grade. Philip's problem starts out very small and ends up ruining his life. The English teacher, Miss Narwin, gives him a bad grade, which prevents him from joining the track team when that is the thing that he wants the most. They transfer all the students' homeroom teachers and he gets Miss Narwin. He hates it. He used to hum the National Anthem in his old homeroom class and did it in Miss Narwin's class. Miss Narwin is annoyed by the humming sound she hears from him. He says he used to do it and that he will always do it. Miss Narwin tells him to stop but he just won't. Miss Narwin gets really mad and sends him to the office. He continues to do the same thing over and over. I thought that he was doing a good thing; I mean people barely hear him and nobody seems to care much. He wasn't loud, "just humming" he tells her. He gets suspended for the third time he hums during the National Anthem. A news reporter picks up the story and only listens to Philip's side. "I got suspended," he says. "For being patriotic," his father says after. Which is totally wrong. Instead of singing it's humming and instead of Mrs. Marwin it's suppose to be Miss Narwin. It has all the wrong information. I recommend this book to all students higher than the 5th grade. I also recommend this book to people that do not like to read because I don't like reading but I read this because of the author's style of writing. His style was really cool cause I liked reading the memos and conversations between people.
Rating: Summary: Nothing But The Truth Review: In the book Nothing But the Truth, there is a main character named Phillip Malloy. Phillip goes to Harrison High is in New Hampshire. He gets mad because he can't get onto the track team because of his grades on his report card. When he gets an unacceptable grade, he blames his teacher for it. He begins to misbehave in order to show that he is upset with his teacher. He then tells his parents that the teacher gives him that grade because she does not like him. His parents believe him and then that is when the whole thing starts. The newspaper people come in and all the other main characters and it does not have a pleasant ending. Miss Narwin gets annoyed by the humming sound she hears during the National Anthem. Dr. Palleni suspends Philip the third time. He does that because he won't stop making a disturbance when he was asked to the day before. The other students were interviewed and said they really didn't mind Philip's disruption because they couldn't hear him. Everyone is on Philip's side and no one knows that he has lied about everything, as if he is an innocent little boy. Philip changes classes for the last time to his old homeroom teacher. Philip can't take the other students laughing in his face and finds himself in a place he never thought he'd be. This story is written in a format that other books are not written in. The book is written in journal entries, letters, phone conversations, face to face conversations, and telegrams. This was an all right book. I do admit that because I hate reading but I did like reading ahead of the class so I do recommend it because if it got my attention, then I really think that it will get yours.
Rating: Summary: NOTHING BUT THE TRUTH Review: This story, Nothing But The Truth by Avi, is about a kid named Philip Malloy who is in ninth grade and wants to be on the track team. He can't because he has a bad grade in Miss Narwin's English class. Philip is also in Miss Narwin's homeroom and he hates it so he hums during "The Star Spangled Banner" to try and get out of her class. Philip wants to get changed to Mr. Lunser's homeroom. So he goes to his coach and asks him what he should do. If you want to fine out what happened next, you should read Nothing But the Truth. The style of this book is like a documentary novel. It has diaries, memos, letters and phone conversations. This makes it easy to understand which I liked very much. I recommend that everyone read this book because it was very interesting.
Rating: Summary: A Great Read Review: In the novel, Nothing but the Truth by Avi, Philip Malloy is a student at Harrison High. He can't tryout for the track team, because he gets a D in his English class. Philip Malloy is really upset and he was really looking forward to being on the team, because he gets new shoes and everything. Philip and his father talk with Ted Griffin, who is running for the school board. Mr. Griffin had a reporter, Ms. Stewart, in his house so Ted and Mr. Malloy encourages Philip to tell her what happened. After a few days, the reporter put the news on the front page of the newspaper. Then, Philip's story goes around the school and Dr. Doane, the principal, has no choice but to get involved in the situation. Dr. Doane asks around the school for the truth. What do you think will happen next? Will Philip get to tryout for the team after the news reaches the coach? Or will Philip get in more trouble? I really liked this book and I would recommend it to anyone, because in this book there is dialogue, journal entries, and some memos. For people who haven't read this book, I say you should. Once you read it you will not want to put it down, its that good!
Rating: Summary: Nothing But The Truhth... Review: I read Nothing But The Truth by Avi. The book takes place in New Hampshire in the present time. It is about a kid named Philip Malloy who is in 9th grade and has an English teacher who he thinks is unfair. He is angry because she gave him a bad grade. Miss Narwin wants to reach him and help him do better in class. Each morning Philip starts humming the National Anthem in Miss Narwin's class and she is annoyed at him. The next morning during the National Anthem, Philip starts humming. From here on trouble starts for Philip and Miss Narwin. I liked the book Nothing But The Truth because it captures the real thing that happens in high school and because it can teach you about life in the future. Philip is like a student who thinks that nothing bad could happen to him in school since he is going to be on the track team and get good grades in school. Peg Narwin is an English teacher who thinks that she can reach other kids and interest them in English. I recommend this book to young adults.
Rating: Summary: Nothing but the Truth Review Review: Nothing But The Truth , by Avi, is a story about Philip Malloy, the main character, who gets a bad grade in his English class. For that reason, he can't try out for the track team. Philip is a stubborn boy who loves track. He will do anything to get on the track team. His goal is to get out of Miss Narwin's English class and try to pass English class. Can you guess what he will do to get out of Miss Narwin's class? Well if you want to find out, you have to read it. I personally think that this is a great book. The author has a very interesting kind of style in writing the story. Part of it was written as journal entries from Philip Malloy and articles from the newspaper. Other parts were transcripts from the radio stations. So practically everyone had something to say about the problem. This story was exciting and fantastic. I would recommend this book to anyone.
Rating: Summary: The Whole Truth Review: I think the story Nothing But The Truth by Avi is a good story. This story is about a kid named Philip Malloy who wants to get on the track team at a school called Harrison High in New Hampshire. But Philip can't because he has a D in one subject; Miss Narwin's English class. According to the school, he needs to get a C or higher to be on the teams at school. The students think Miss Narwin is nice but Philip thinks she's mean. Philip tries everything to get out of Miss Narwin's homeroom. One day, Philip starts to get really annoying. Miss Narwin can't take it anymore so she makes him go to the principal's office. He gets in a lot of trouble. Then a lot of people get involved like the newspapers, talk shows and school board members. It becomes one big mess! I liked the book because it shows how much stuff people can go through if a kid doesn't tell the truth. I think kids should read this book because you can learn something from it.
