Summary: Nothing but the Truth
Review: I think nothing but the Truth was a well-written book. There were many parts that I did not understand, but for the most part, it was understandable. The parts I did not understand were when Miss Narwin said that he was singing. Phil really loved track and the school took that from him. He was not able to join track because of his grades. He also does not listen to the teachers when he is told to do something. When Miss Narwin told Phil to stop singing, he kept singing, it continued for a couple days. Miss Narwin said she did not want Phil to be suspended, but he was still suspended. I did not like the ending because it left me hanging.

Summary: Nothing But The Truth: By Avi
Review: This book is an amazing book produced by the famous author Avi. The book is a "Documentary Novel" in which there are no direct conversations. The book is written in fake transcripts and memos. The book is about a 9th grader, Philip Malloy, who has a conflict with his English teacher, Mrs. Narwin. Phil starts singing the "Star-Spangled Banner" in class, and he gets kicked out of class. The assistant principal, Dr. Joseph Palleni, suspends Phil. Soon, the papers report that he was kicked out of school for patriotism. How did this suspension get blown up to a nation wide political issue? The only way to find out is by reading the book. On a scale of 5, this book gets a 5. It is a must read.

Summary: All around a good book
Review: Avi is a pretty good writer but I don't really like the dialect there are to many memos and conversations. If was a regular book I would like it better. Phillip Malloy is a great character, and I think he deserves what happened to him. (don't wanna ruin it) so that's all I'm gonna say. It's cool it took place in New Hampshire, I'm pretty sure it has to do with the state modo(live free or die) but its still cool.

Summary: Must Reading for Anyone Associated with a School
Review: NOTHING BUT THE TRUTH, by award-winning author Avi, provides fascinating reading for children and adults alike. Whether you think Philip Malloy is a smart aleck who got what he deserved or consider him the innocent victim of an authoritarian teacher, you will be spellbound as a classroom incident gradually escalates to a national controversy.

Avi calls NOTHING BUT THE TRUTH a "documentary novel." He offers no commentary. Rather he provides various documents -- memos, transcripts of conversations, diary entries, etc. -- so that readers can draw their own conclusions from primary sources.

NOTHING BUT THE TRUTH offers many lessons about life and about literature. Readers can see the far-reaching consequences of casual actions. They can contemplate the enforcement of rules and grapple with the question of responsibility.

NOTHING BUT THE TRUTH provides a perfect example of objective writing and a wonderful opportunity to discuss point of view. Readers can then examine the process of inference: Exactly what leads them to the conclusions that they draw?

An interesting way to study the novel is to have a class read it aloud with the same students reading the main characters' roles throughout. Reading can be alternated with discussion. You may find it difficult to determine where characters' points of view leave off and students' begin.

Summary: Avi Reports, You Decide
Review: Suspended from school for singing or humming to the National Anthem in his homeroom? This is the situation that Phillip Malloy faces in this documentary novel. All the documentation of the incidents are laid out for you to decide who is at fault here. Phillip is stuck with an English teacher, Ms. Narwin, who he despises. She pushes classical literature on her students. When he gets re-assigned to her homeroom for the Spring term he gets more aggravated. He used to hum along to the National Anthem in his former homeroom, but when he does this in Ms. Narwin's class he gets sent down to the Vice Principle's office. The school rules state that students must stand in respectful silence when the National Anthem is playing. Phillip feels that he has a patriotic right to hum or sing along and continues until he is suspended from school. The publicity and paperwork starts to flow at a remarkable rate after this happens. I found this Newbery Honor Book to be riveting. I would strongly recommend this book for teachers, parents, and administrators to read besides Middle and High School students. This book tells what can happen when mis - communication takes place between student and parents, teacher and student, administration and teacher, and the media.

Summary: Boring to some, great to others
Review: This book has many qualities which can be either good or bad. Its layout is somewhat confusing for readers not used to documentary novels. In my opinion this book was great, but many people I know have said this was a horrible boring book. According to one website I've seen, the book circles around patriotism, truth, and constitutional rights of students, and, yes, this is true in my opinion. Although the book has many slow parts, it is loaded with a lot of contflict, which I believe keeps this book interesting. The book's ending is very annoying in my opinion, since it doesn't conclude what it started. It never shows what happened to Miss Narwin or the school after it, but you'll find out for yourself. I think you've got nothing to lose but some time in reading this book, because you might like it.

Summary: FALSE INFORMATION
Review: THIS BOOK IS A FANTASTIC READ FOR ANY PERSON WHO WANTS TO SEE WHAT THE POSSIBILITIES ARE WHEN YOU DO NOT TELL THE COMPLETE TRUTH. I WOULD RECOMMEND THIS BOOK TO ANYONE WHO IS LOOKING FOR A QUICK AND EASY READ BUT ALSO WANTS AN INTERESTING BOOK. THIS BOOK ALSO GIVES GOOD SIGHT INTO THE LIFE OF A YOUNG TEENAGER.

Summary: How can you not LOVE this book?!
Review: Nothing but the Truth is the epitome of a good satirical book. It shows EXACTLY what is wrong with society today in a subtle and believable manner. It's provocative situations are completely realistic. The media and other influences, as it tells us, has a great hold on society. These influences can be extremely persuasive, stirring up feelings to the point that we forget how miniscule an issue really is.

Summary: What it's thought of NBTT-- By Tashina
Review: I thought the book was fine. I've read worse books, and I've read better books. Avi is a talented author though. I have read another one of his books (which I found more interesting...)and I see that he really puts a lot into his writing. I would recommend this book to anyone who likes books that are more in play format.
