Summary: Iffy about the Love!
Review: All her friends told her that one day she would meet up with the wrong man's
wife and all hell would break loose. Truer words had never been spoken to
Marissa, an attractive, single woman who believes in getting hers -- money, gifts,
wining and dining, physical attention -- but the catch is she only dates married men.
Her no strings attach rule was made for the married man. As she juggles four men
simultaneously, Marissa thinks she is living the high life until she begins receiving
disturbing calls from a woman that wants Marissa to stay away from her man.

At the same time, Marissa finds herself on the outs with her best friend Charmaine.
Charmaine tries to set Marissa up with Levi, a sexy, single, yet unrefined man that
Marissa despises at first glance. A heated exchanged between the best friends leave
Marissa mad at Charmaine and Charmaine wondering if Marissa will still be her maid
of honor. Now, Marissa only has her friend Brandon, a flamboyantly gay man, to confide
in as the calls and threats escalate to a deadly level. When Brandon contracts Levi to
redesign his kitchen, he slowly infiltrates Levi into Marissa's life...to protect her,
and possibly more. Marissa finds herself questioning the life she has led. Will she
find the person who's been threatening her life, will she realize that she's short
changing not only other women, but her self when she refuses to find someone SINGLE to
love her and only her?

Gloria Mallette's Shades of Jade is a suspenseful read. The twists and turns and
not-to-be-believed ending are definitely fast-paced and worth the read. In fact, I
enjoyed the suspense far more than I enjoyed the romantic aspect(s) of the novel.
Levi's character didn't seem to be as dimensional as Marissa's, so it was hard for me
to care about Levi and if he got together with Marissa. Add to that the fast pace to
which they got together and how it all seemed physical and not romantic. I found it
hard to believe the relationship; and as a result, it lessened my enjoyment of the novel.
But like I mentioned before, for the drama and suspense alone, I would definitely read
this novel, and I would be interested in reading future works by Mallette.

Summary: A Must Read!
Review: When I first read the back of the book, I wasn't sure about the plot, some woman cheating with different men? But once Marissa started being harassed,I loved it. She got what she deserved for messing with married men, but I think she learned her lesson. The ending was great, it completely surprised me. I had to pass this book on to my friend the next day. Gloria Mallette did a great job,she kept me turing pages late into the night.

Summary: Good Book, Dumb Ending
Review: I like this book. It makes you eager to see what'll happened next. It's like a big mystery but from a "cheaters" kinda way. Marissa was a good character but I'm glad she learned her lesson not to be so damn sassy, hard to get, and triflin'. This book should've ended better. I loved how the plot was so interested, it felt like a movie and sorta nightmare. This book is full of suspense that will make you defintely want to finish it until the end. I was very disappointed because I think Ms. Gloria should've put more effort into making a non fictional ending. Whoever reads this book- watch out because the ending may not be what you'll expect. All in all, my pages were turning which is something I love about books.

Summary: Easy Read!
Review: This book is an easy read, one that you can finish in a day if you have the time. I liked Ms. Mallette's style and the ending really surprised me, quite unexpected. While Marissa learned her lesson late into her games, she is a character you'd love to hate. I almost wished she died in the end, disliking the fact that she found such a "ready" love with a good man like Levi, but that's the beauty of fiction. A story can be whatever the writer wants it to be.

Summary: Could have been a bit better
Review: I really did enjoy this book. It taught me a lot about life and really allowed me to realize that people in fact trully don't know who they're living with. Even though you see someone one way deep within themselves they may be want to be totally different. I think the book wasn't so good in giving suspense. Yes, it did give detail and described things very well, but I feel that the author could have done better in leaving people with awe. I don't feel you should have to get to the 20th chapter and then start to really get deep into the book. But don't get me wrong the book was still very good and I recommend all who can to read it especially those living a double life because like R. Kelly said in his song "It aint right"

Summary: It's Cooler In The Shade
Review: Wow!! I was truly impressed and entertained. The charactes were well-developed and realistic. In books like this, by the 15th page I've more or less figured out the idea, but not this time around. Very well crafted writing.

Summary: Shades of Jade
Review: I thought this book was a good read. I just picked it up because nothing else looked interesting to me and I'm so glad that I did. It was surprisingly quite humorous, I found myself laughing at loud at a couple of parts. I thought the ending was suspenseful and I had to keep myself from skimming ahead to find out who the stalker was (by the way, I was on the right track although I chose the wrong person). I really liked this book; Marissa turned out to be a likeable character, although I thought she was stuck up at first. I recommend this book to anyone who likes a little mystery, drama, and or humor because you will find all of that and more in here.

Rating: 4 stars
Summary: Oh, the suspense
Review: Makes you think twice about having affairs with married men,eh? Shades of Jade is a slightly different novel compared to what I'm use. I discovered this book from Essence magazine and heard good reviews from this sight so I thought I'd give it try. The person stalking Marissa is a surprise and a lot of mess unravels from it. I kept thinking it was probably someone else but then it wasn't. I glad the main character finds true love from someone who is usually so not her type due to her snobbish attitude. The character weren't as well developed as they should be and that's where the four stars are for. They should have explained Marissa's childhood a bit and the real reason why she went after married. Think twice when you chose your lover.

Rating: 4 stars
Summary: Powerful
Review: Every trifling male and female on this earth should read this book.............It might actually have the power to give the wanna be players a conscience. Marissa had a bitter taste in her mouth from all of the "wonderful" experiences that she's had with stupid, ignorant, vindictive and abusive men in her life. Charmaigne wanted the fairytale life so badly that she couldn't see the devil himself unleash the gates of hell trying to push her through. Brandon lived a life of ironic proportions. How can you make money showing people how to be honest and get a serious reality check when you could not? This book hit home in more ways than one. Sometimes we go through life not wanting enough and always looking up to someone or something. Other times we think we're too much and go through life looking down at someone or something. This book gives you a rude awakening either way. You will definitely end the pages of this novel with a lesson. It is food for thought and you should feed your mind. I gave this book a 4 chocolate rating.
