Summary: True, patriotic Americans must read this book
Review: If you truly care about the principles upon which this nation was founded, this is a must-read for you! Savage presents logical, common sense ideas for preserving the heritage of this nation and doesn't worry about trying to fit in with the politically correct media. I was told Savage is a misogynist; quite the opposite is true, but you have to have the common sense to know the difference in him bashing liberal female politicians because of their ludicrous ideals and the simple fact that they are women. If more people thought and spoke like Savage, what a more peaceful, cohesive nation we might be living in today!

Summary: I love Michael, but this book isn't his best stuff
Review: If you love "The O'Reilly Factor" program but were a bit disappointed in O'Reilly's books, you'd feel the same way about Savage's work.

The Savage Nation radio program is sheer genius, and the book is basically Michael's takes on many significant issues. I dont know why, but it just doesn't read as well as it plays on the air. His name calling of Hillary ("Pillory") Clinton and others seems clever on the air, but in print it looks rather childish... sometimes even idiotic.

Bottom line, it's a good book if you agree with Savage and want to hear him on some issues that he doesn't normally talk about on air. I also have no problem supporting him financially when threats of boycotts are coming at him from all sides. He's a good man, a dying breed, and he should have spent an extra year polishing this book up some, because he is better than this.

Summary: Liberals Bad
Review: As Savage points out, the liberals are ruining our way of life and destroying our freedoms. If anyone needs proof of how the liberals are controlling free expression and free press in America, one need only to turn on the tv. Just look at the way these liberal news organizations like CNN, FOX News CNBC, MSNBC, etc, not to mention all the liberal AM radio talk show hosts, are covering the war. There is no serious coverage of the civilian casualties in Iraq, or of the many war protests throughout the world and the US. The liberals have successfully managed to mute any fact or opinion that does not make the US look good. There has been no serious investigative reporting of exactly why the US went after Iraq when there was no real evidence of a Sep 11 connection or of the existence of weapons of mass destruction or of any real threat against the US. The news channels simply reported Powell's presentation of some satellite photos to the U.N. as proof of WMD. And even now, as the US takes control of the country, they have still not been able to locate any, but this is not to be discussed. These liberal news organizations report that Bush wants to free the Iraqi people from the tyrant Sadam, without explaining why the US stays on freindly terms with other tyrants around the world who are every bit as evil, if not more so, than Sadam. And when CNN does give some attention to a war protest, it usually gets about 1 minute of coverage in 24 hours. And even this riles the radical liberals, who do not want a single word uttered that may promote an opposing view. And when great conservative practitioners of free expression, such as Micheal Moore or the Dixie Chicks, do make some small statement against the war, the liberal commentators and columnists like Bill O'Reilly, Rush Limbaugh, George Will, etc waste no time to retaliate. They use up 15 or 20 minutes of air-time to attack them in an attempt to mute all conservative thought and expression. And it seems to have worked. All our great conservative leaders in congress and the great conservative commentators in America are now too scared to express any opposition to the war or to even say anything negative about the President for fear of being labeled a traitor or communist pinko or fascist, or whatever old term those evil liberals are resurrecting. Indeed, these liberals are totally out of control and are suppressing our right to know what is really going on. These liberals are crazy, with all their censorship and contempt for free expression. We conservatives have to regain control, so that the truth can finally be told. Yeah, boyeeeee!!

Summary: Savage, unamerican
Review: The book highlights the hypocrisy of today's right wing talk show host: the author romanticizes war without having fought, pushes tax cuts that assist no one but himself and his elite friends, advocates cuts in education knowing his family will never need public education and launches unamerican personal attacks on political opponents in the name of "patriotism."

He attacks immigration into the United States, the very thing that made our country great. In the 1700's, our English ancestors immigrated here to avoid the very same persucution that Savage advocates on todays immigrants. In the 1800's Irish and Italian immigrants helped create the modern economic powerhouse.

Summary: Pleasantly surprised... good book
Review: I admit I was cautious about buying much less reading the book since I find his radio persona so dislikable, or akin to a three hour drive by. Which is why I was honestly surprised and impressed with the book. Sure he has some of his drive by stuff in it, but he also has some excellent, and articulate information of great value. So even if you dislike his radio show, check the book out. You like me, might be very surprised.

Chapter 5 Christophobia is excellent and I liked Chapter 4 Rats VS Eagles is wonderful because I like the way he talks about how middle America his life is and how he talks about the good this country has and is and how often the naysayers never have anything nice to say about the United States but they sure aren't beating an exit to another countries where alas their anti this and that views wouldn't even be tolerated.

A good companion book to this book, also available on Amazon.com

Summary: Savage citizens, rejoice. Other buyers, beware.
Review: In the opening pages of his book, "The Savage Nation," Michael "Savage" Weiner writes of his tough upbringing amidst hard-working, blue collar immigrants and a stay-at-home mother. He admits, freely, that his parents have paid his degrees little mind; they were (and are) simple, common stock, i.e. good people. And then Weiner writes this:

"I was raised on anger, resentment and neglect."

It's a terrible thing, to be raised that way. Would we wish that on our children, to think that of us? No. And yet Savage leans on this background quite a few times as a good example to behold.

You see these kinds of contradictions throughout the book, and similarly, a man conflicted by his obvious intelligence and the burdens he's suffered, which have shaped some of the mean-spirited opinions he now has.

Savage makes a bunch of intellectual points, many of which have merit; however, it is the anger with which he makes them that makes him such a popular figure. It leads me to wonder where the emotional core of our nation is. Do we all feel that kind of resentment about our lives, our country? Surely, Savage thinks our nation has gone straight to hell. But have we all had such bad experiences that we can agree with him? I personally have not, and so I can't go there with him; I can't manufacture emotions I have no reason to have. If I've led a pretty good life, it seems cheap of me to pretend there's something seriously wrong with it.

In my opinion, you have to identity with Savage's source anger, buried somewhere in his upbringing, to really understand or enjoy the book. Otherwise, you're fooling yourself into see the world for what it hasn't been to you.

Summary: political awareness
Review: if for nothing else, this book brings about a mass of questions concerning our government and the politicians in this country. liberals are pigeon holed, but the author offers some back up to the claims. if you were never into politics or really only registered to a political party mainly due to family tradition, this book will make you want to educate yourself more in the constitution and in the science of politics, and awaken the true patriot in all of us by reminding us of the efforts our founding fathers trully intended for this great country.

Summary: Ridiculous Rants from a Psueto Intellectual Hate Monger
Review: After hearing Savage on the radio, I was not surprized by the nonsense contained in this, his latest epistle. Savage is basically a psueto-intellectual, self-promoting hate monger who brings nothing but vitriol and disinformation to the table. His accusations and theories are so preposterous as to be beneath comment. Savage is a non-player and this book is about as credible as the latest ravings of the UFO abduction crowd. It may have been good for a laugh if not for the fact that a sizable portion of people mistake this drek for cogent thought. The fact that this creatin has garnered a national audience is disturbing and speaks to the readiness on the part of various media outlets to chase ratings without regard to any professional ethic.

Summary: You will either love it or hate it
Review: This is a book about the truth in America today. When one speaks of the truth, it needs very little referencing to do. No doubt we have become a very politicized society as a country and so will our lives. It is often desirable to trace our roots and understand where we came from. As evidenced in the last election between Bush and Gore, the country was split right down the middle...and so will the responses to this book. It is a good book for those who want to understand where we came from and where we need to get back to to rebuild the "American" we all admire all over again. A 5-star and a 1-star rating here won't do any justice. Read the book and learn for yourselves. If anything, you will learn about the origin of news.

Summary: the only thing you need to know about this book...
Review: no bibliography, no works cited, and a single footnote (in which we learn that MSNBC is an acronym for "More Snotty Nonesense By Creeps") makes for the most intellectually dishonest read of the year.
