Rating: Summary: One in a long line of 'mediums' Review: 100 years ago they were spiritualists. Then mediums. Now psychics. John Edward is the latest in the long line of people claiming to speak with the dead. Although a better writer than other (now discredited) psychics such as Van Pragh and Doris Stokes, he recycles the same old new age fluff which you can expect from a book of this genre. No answers - only vague platitudes. No scientific trials of his alleged skills - only anecdotes. John even 'channels' deceased cats and dogs, although he doesn't mention goldfish and mice. With so many fraudulent psychics over the years, what are the chances that this guy is for real? I think it is zero, and his book did nothing to convince me otherwise (that I wouldn't write myself if I was in his shoes). I'm not sure what is worse - the calculating nature of being a 'cold reader' for financial gain, or the long line of desperate people lining up to prove PT Barnum's famous quote: 'There is a sucker born every minute'. Just as I finished the book, I caught an episode of Dateline which showed how John had pumped a cameraman for information and then claimed during a later session to receive the information from psychic sources. Oh, how the mighty have fallen so quickly. Just like Van Pragh and Stokes before him, he is reduced to the level of a fraud, and yet people will go on believing. I would recommend Carl Sagans 'The Demon Haunted World' as a superior alternative to this book, showing the true wonder and mystery of the world we live in.
Rating: Summary: A No Mystery Approach Review: After having several tragic events in my life I happen/or was lead to see the scifi show of John Edwards. It has sent me on a quest to read his book. When I received it in the mail, I read the whole book in one afternoon. It is a "no mystery" approach to to dealing with love ones who have been taken, while we are left with unanswered questions. As a person of deep faith, I find this book deals with the subject on a straight forward method. I am uncomfortable with many of the other books that have taken a mysterious way and make the Christian reader wondering if other forces are at work. John Edward and this book is VERY positive and reflect a deep rooted Christian faith. I feel Mr Edwards talent and work is a gift from GOD and in this day and time, there is a great need to connect to our past. His shows and this book has help me to accept some things and encouraged me to get on with daily life, which is the real important truth. Life is for the living. Thank You Mr Edwards
Rating: Summary: good for people who are already familiar with john Review: we became john edward fans after running across his show on sci-fi, and seeing him do enough readings to be convinced that he's got something legit going. i then got a copy of this book for my birthday, and very much enjoyed reading it. however, if someone was not familiar with john's work already, the book won't mean much to them (imo). it's the kind of thing you really have to see for a while before it has an impact on you. but i have to say, watching the show has changed my beliefs about what happens when we die, and that's saying a LOT! also, if you're buying this book, be sure to get the update version that has the section about developing your psychic abilities added. i got the older version and was disappointed to find it wasn't there...one cover is more blue and one is more green, but it's the same book. this is a great gift for john edward fans!
Rating: Summary: An Authentic Modern Psychic Review: John Edward reveals to the public the heartfelt wonder of the afterlife and being a psychic. His remarkable gifts are astonishing, an people will start to explore spirituality in earnest as a result. Other books/authors for those on the spiritual path are- "KYBALION"; "ZELATOR"; "Secret Life of Nature"; and the books by Rudolph Steiner; Alice Bailey; Vera Stanley Alder; Sri Chinmoy; Raymund Andrea; and Joseph Weed.
Rating: Summary: Excellent! Review: I've become a big fan of John Edward's since I started watching his t.v. show, "Crossing Over." I have absolutely no doubt about his credibility. Reading this book has only confirmed that opinion and I LOVE the way it's written, too - no "New Age" lingo, no insubstantial fluff; just plain information about the Other Side from a plain ordinary guy - and I mean that as the highest compliment. I have found great comfort and assurance in reading this book and know I will refer to it often. Thanks so much, John!
Rating: Summary: Awsome Book For Everyone Review: This book was really good. I read this book over the weekend and could NOT put it down. It's a great story even if you don't believe in psychics or mediums. John Edward is just telling his story not trying to convince anyone this is real. I rarely find a book I can't put down or can't wait to read and this is one of a very few. Well worth the time.
Rating: Summary: One Last Time - a good read whether you believe or not Review: I stumbled upon "Crossing over with John Edward" this summer while trying to find something better to do than watch the 10 p.m. news. We try to catch it every night and it inspired me to buy this book. I really liked John's writing style, which is much like his on-air style. In both, he seems to be a very down-to-earth, practical kind of person - not what I typically associate with mediums, psychics, etc. His stories were interesting and thought provoking. I recommend this book whether you are searching for comfort or simply looking for a good, easy-to-read book. I wish he'd write another one soon. And as for the one reviewer who said John was slightly goofy looking...what planet are you from anyway? ;)
Rating: Summary: A Must Read! Review: John Edward has been blessed with a wonderful gift that few of us can identify with. This book explains how it all began and how it intermingles with his personal life. It is well written and I found answers to many questions that I've always had, but didn't know who to ask! Anyone who has ever lost someone they love NEEDS to read this book.
Rating: Summary: Great and Insightful Review: This book was wonderful. I recently lost someone I loved very much. Since my loss, I have become quite interested in life after death. John Edward's book was easy to read and very interesting. He comes across as the guy next door and that makes him seem very approachable. The stories he told not only renewed my faith, but made me realize that I WILL see my loved ones again. I can't praise John Edward and his wonderful gift enough. If you have EVER lost someone you will really appreciate this book.
Rating: Summary: A "can't put it down" reading! Review: Purchased "One Last Time" as a surprise gift. If you enjoy watching the "Crossing Over" program on Sci-Fi, this book is a "must read" accompanyment. But clear the decks, because you won't want to put it down. The background, insights, and stories are presented clearly in an easy-to-read style. As with the show, your emotions will span amazement, sympathy, hope, happiness, and understanding. And have someone available to share the stories as you go.
