Summary: Synopsis about Nothing but the Truth
Review: Nothing but the Truth a documentary novel by Avi illustrates the life of a male teenager. The novel is based upon a teenage boy named Philip Malloy. He attends Harrison High School, where their children are educated, not just taught. It has been the districts tradition to sing "The Star-Spangled Banner?after the daily memo has been read. Phillip Malloy doesn't quite apprehend the word "sing.?He chooses to hum the "Star-Spangled Banner.?With the actions he has done, he has been warned by his literature teacher, Ms. Narwin. With the caution he was advised, Philip continues to disrespect the national anthem and disregard Ms. Narwin's warning by humming the anthem. After being advised more than once, all that was left was consequence to be enforced. He was suspended for his actions. His suspension became a world event. The world was involved, whether the suspension was moral or not. The suspension might seem unethical to some young readers, yet the consequence of his actions deserved the punishment he was given. Respect plays a big part in this novel. When Philip hums the anthem, it's a sign of disrepute towards Ms. Narwin and the anthem. He was cautioned several times and yet decided to disobey and hum the anthem. The youth these days have no tolerance towards adults. The author makes it seem like Philip had no doing in the situation. It appears the author thinks it's the teacher to blame for the suspension. Being a youth myself, I believe that the punishment enforced on Philip was proper. He was aware of his actions and continued to become obnoxious. The author did not elaborate somewhat about Ms. Narwin's point of view about the situation. The parents also seemed to commend about their sons action. Instead of being ethical about their son's action, they become fonder of his suspension and make it into a big scene. The author seems to be diffusing the wrong thought to his readers. Rather than being realistic, he writes about how the parents supported their son's actions. The author should have taken a more sensible approach and should've talked about the right decision made. On the other hand, if the author had written that, the story would be boring and be more of a clich? This book is a prime example of a story seeming to be interesting to young readers. Young readers seem to be more interested in stories involving their own experiences. It may not necessarily mean they hummed the anthem, yet they are interested by stories that relate to them. I do not blame Avi for his novel; I just wish authors would be more realistic and more ethical in their writing.

Summary: An Exceptional Book
Review: I had to read this book for school, so I didn't really think I'd like it. But after I kind of got into it, I really enjoyed it. I think it's really good because the book doesn't place the blame on just one person. At first I was for Philip, but then stuff started to happen and I just couldn't help but start to feel sorry for Miss Narwin. I've read it twice, and I still keep seeing things I've missed or overlooked.

Summary: An OK book
Review: I thought that the book was great if you like the Star Spangled Banner.Philip Mallony he got suspended for singing the Star Spangled Banner. He thinks his teacher hates him and is just trying to get him in trouble. He also wants to be on the track team. Miss Narwin won't like him because he missed days from his suspension and he doesn't get good grades either so Miss Narwin is not going to let him be on the track team. Philip is really mad at her because he has been working really hard to be on the track team.

Summary: A TERRIBLE BOOK
Review: This book is just outright terrible. The main character is annoying and stupid and the story line is just dragged on and well its just terrible! The book could be written simply in two chapters. The author drags it on as far as she can to make a terrible book! DO NOT READ THIS BOOK IT IS NOT GOOD!

Summary: Good Book with Lack of Excitment
Review: Nothing but the Truth by Avi was a resonably good book, but it lacked excitement. For example, Phillip Malloy was an average high scool student who was stuggling in English class, so he "disrupted" the class so he could try to get the teacher in trouble. His side of the story was mosly untrue, and was blown way out of proportion. Phillip's story was fairly ordinary, but when taken to the press, was exaggerated WAY too much and suddenly the whole U.S. loved Phillip and hated Ms.Narwin (his English teacher). This novel had a pretty ridiculas topic and the end was very disappointing.

Summary: Terrible, depressing and disconnected. Avi's worst yet.
Review: Nothing but the truth is a book that I didn't enjoy at all. I had to read it as a school assignment, which doesn't normally bother me, but otherwise I probably would have stopped in the middle. I am an avid reader and there are actually few books that I don't like, but this was definately one of them. The way the book was written was disorganized and as I said earlier, disconnected. There was too much that wasn't getting said and even more that shouldn't have been. The plot is about a ridiculous situation that gets blown way out of proportion and anyone's control. The ending is disappointing and weak. It was also depressing because those who deserved it least suffered the consequences. I know that's Murphy's law, but it also turned out to be pointless. The entire plot, I mean. If you've already read, or read the book, you'll understand what I mean. I suppose that that's the reason that we read it in class, to make a point that is very apparent in this book. So even though it was terrible it shows some interesting perspectives on society. Read it as you would a nonfiction book, not a story.

Summary: Nothing but the Truth---SUPER
Review: Nothing but the Truth is a powerful book. It illustrates how some actions can be taken to the extreme and how people, even children, can manipulate a situation. The ending will blow you away. Children, as well as adults, should read this novel.

Summary: Nothing but the truth is a must
Review: This book by Avi is a must for all secondary education majors. Avi points out how important it is for teachers and students to communicate, parents and students to have meaningful dialogue, administration and teachers to keep each other well informed, and for society to be careful about jumping on bandwagons and believing everything that they read. I use this book in my education class to point out the importance of knowing students and developing a positive, safe environment in which they can learn. Again, this is a must for anyone who wants to go into secondary education.

Summary: THE TRUTH SHALL SET YOU FREE!
Review: This book is interesting. It reminds me of my high school days. Those days hold such fond memories. It is about a ninth grade student, Phillip Malloy who is being a typical adolescent. I think that Miss Narwin is being a little difficult because she wants her students to love literature as much as she does. I can tell that she is a dedicated teacher; however, she can not force anyone to learn. She can only provide them with the education. It is up to the student to accept her knowledge. If they do not she should walk away knowing she did her best.
