Summary: What I liked about Nothing but the Truth
Review: When I read about Nothing But the Truth it blew me away and it got me exhausted. It's a good book because it shows kids how to stick up for your country and your rights. One thing I hated about this book is that this boy named Philip Malloy. He lies about many things. When I got to chapter 10 Philip Malloy in 10th grade (a softmore) lies about something and causes a big problem.Philip was in his class in the morning. When the ''Star Spanngled Banner'' is played he starts to sing. The rule is to be silent when the ''Star Spanngled Banner'' is played, the teacher Miss. Narwin tells Philip to stop singing and he cotinued and Miss.Narwin sends him to the assistant pricipals office,Mr.Palleni.If you read the rest of the book it gets crazy.

I highly reccoment this novel. It has a great message that if you don't tell the whole truth, there are big consequences.

Summary: Nothing But the Truth-is a good book, you should read it.
Review: In the book, "Nothing but the Truth", written by Avi, Phillip Malloy as an average teenager until he starts to hum the Star Spangle Banner during school silence. After the teacher, Ms. Narwin, sends him to the office to see the principal, and learn the disrespect that he has shown to the rest of the class. Not knowing what was so wrong, he is suspended for being patriotic. This upsets his parents, and they take it to their neighbor, running for school board. Then bringing it to the press, everything is blown out of porortion. Newspapers, radio newscasts, and the repoters are titleing this as the "Boy who was suspended for being patriotic". Knowing that he was wrong, and not knowing what to do, he tries to change schools. This is a great book, and I love how it is written. If you love page turner then this is the book for you. I'm 14 and teens hate books, but this is a good one for anybody.

Summary: this book was pretty dang good
Review: Phillip Malloy is an average teenager in the book "Nothing but the Truth" untill he starts humming in class when he is told to stand in respectfull silence while the National Anthem is being played. After the teacher, Ms. narwin, sends him to the office to see the principal because he was being disrespectful, he is suspended. This upsets his parents. They take it to the press. It is broadcasted all over the u.s. as "The boy who was suspended for being patriotic". Phillip knows that it is all a lie and feels really guilty. he apologizes to the teacher and tries to clear his name.

Summary: great book
Review: i read this book years ago when i was in elementary school. even now as a college student, i can still look back and see how true it still is. you feel all the things that paul feels: the helpless frustration at a punishment that is much to severe for the crime, for something that should not even be a crime at all. it shows how no one wins in these situations where the authority feels that it must be unyeilding in decisions that are known to be wrong

Summary: A Teacher's View: Almost Shakespearean
Review: "Nothing But the Truth" is better than all but a very few of the adult novels I've read lately. I'd recommend it highly to adults (my wife loved it too), and it's well worth teaching to the right age group (roughly grade 9-11).

Avi's approach to character seems almost Shakespearean to high school--teachers, students, administrators, parents, politicians--and shows how their different goals and biases keep them from understanding and the protagonists' minor but significant character flaws lead to grievous consequences that ought to induce fear and pity. (This might be a nice book to pair with "Julius Caesar"--the characters could be generally writes in a workmanlike, clear prose that shouldn't intimidate younger readers.

Based on the other reviews I've read here, and thinking students who are too young (7th grade is too young). (2) Students will need help in discovering that the characters behave the way they do because they see the same incidents in very different ways. All the characters think they're telling "nothing but the truth," but their various "truths" are contradictory. If you can get students to see this, it could be a valuable lesson about why real-life political issues are so difficult to resolve. (3)Students find the ending a let-down, so teachers have to help the students see why a more conventional ending wouldn't have been right for the book.

Summary: not up to his standard
Review: Although this book was very fun, it was definitely not as good as some of Avi's books that I have read. Also, the ending was a little dumb, and it seemed like he just stopped in the middle of the story. This could have been a lot better.

Summary: Good book , but confusing!
Review: I think this book had a good moral lesson, but I agree there were too many different types of dialoge. For example, when I was reading the conversation between Phillip and his parents, I got mixed up on who was saying what and I had to read it over several times. I think if it had been written in a regular narrative form, it would have been alot easier to read and more enjoyable.

I think AVI made the descriptions vague on purpose so the reader could image himself what the character would look like and that, to most readers makes the story more enjoyable. I am more like Michael in that I think it is more fun to read that way. For instance, I thought Mrs. Narwin was a gray haired, old lady with those little half glasses that sit down on the end of your nose. I picured moles on her face and I pictured in my mind that her clothes were old Grandma clothes like something you would buy at the Salvation Army store. But, as the story went on the picture I had of her changed into a nice lady in her fifties with a little gray hair wearing nice clothes, no moles and at one point I almost pictured her with a halo above her and light all around her. She seemed to be about the only sane person on the whole staff of teachers.

Summary: This Book Was So Bad And I Almost Fell Asleep
Review: There were basicly one O.K part which was a small part of the middle. Normally Avi is so good. But not this book. The format was a pain in the butt. The end I hated because it just ended right there. The Begining was so bad, boring, And I almost fell asleep. Like I said Avi is normaly good. But this book was so bad. It was a big disapointment.

Summary: All right but not excactly perfect
Review: This book was ok but it could have been better. Avi could have written more in the ending. He just stopped and left me hanging or Avi could have written a sequel but there isn't one. :) Overall, it was alright but personally, compared to his other books it could have been much much better. I liked what he wrote. :)

Summary: It was O.K. But it was hard to follow.
Review: The book was good but I thought that it could have been better. The way that I thought the book wasn't as good as it could have been is because it was hard to follow along with the story. For example when I would read a part when Philip was talking to his parents sometimes I would skip reading the names of who was talking and I wouldn't know who was talking then I would have to go back and that became annoying about 50 pages into the book. Here is some advice for readers don't skip things it might take you a while to read everything but it is better than going back a bunch of times during the story.
