Summary: NOT FOR ENGLISH
Review: I read this (...) a few years ago (...). The format was made reading hard, although it did spice things up, the plot was pretty dull, and the ending stunk. I don't feel this lived up to the usual standards of Avi, exhibited in such works as TRUE CONFESSIONS OF CHARLOTTE DOYAL, but others may have enjoyed it.

Summary: A Book I Never Put Down
Review: Nothing But The The Truth by Avi is about a teenage boy named Phillip Malloy, who moves to a new town. In this documentary novel, Phillip has a bit of trouble with his homeroom teacher, Mrs. Narwin. One morning, when the loudspeeker played the National Anthem on the loud speaker, Phillip started to hum the song. His teacher didn't like this and sent him to the principals office. And from then on, everything got worse for the two of them.
I think that Avi, the author, wanted to tell us to cooperate with everyone as much as we can. Because if we do, unlike Phillip, nobody will get angry and lose their respect.
I liked this book because of the climax building up to the big ending. This climax started from the very first page up until the very last sentence. After I started this book, I couldn't put it down.

Summary: Terrible.
Review: I read this book as part of my ninth grade accelerated English curriculum. Written in play format, this work presented a challenge in reading to some of my peers, as this was the first time they had read a full-length work written in such a fashion. In finishing the work, however, my entire class--as well as the instructor--agreed that this was perhaps one of the worst books we had ever read. Shallow characters, slow development, and an overall disappointing plot left my class wishing we had never actually read the book. The ending to the story is bittersweet, as well as unexpected; that isn't to say, though, that this book is, in essence, a waste of time. If you're looking for a more engaging and fulfilling read, I would suggest just about anything else. In short: shallow, undeveloping characters mixed with an annoying plot have come together, in "Nothing but the Truth," one of the most irritating examples of faux-literature.

Summary: Sam's thoughts on the truth
Review: I did enjoy this book - especially the ending. I don't want to give it away or anything but I must say that it was a very nice twist on the plot! I think that it's great for teens to stand up for what they believe in, in an organized way. Wether or not we choose to sing the National Anthem is our right. I do feel that Phillip was in the wrong though by not being quiet when Miss. Narwin asked him to. He should've gone about his right to free speech a little differently. I do like the story a lot though but personally I am not crazy about this format style. The headings and names in conversation context make it harder to read. You have to read things slowly and carefully in order to understand it or you will be confused. I would recommend this to anyone I guess. Overall I applaud Avi for her skill!

Summary: Nothing But The Truth by Avi
Review: Nothing but the Truth, by Avi, was a book I read in a VHS class at school. It is about a 9th grader named Phillip Malloy, who is suspended from school for humming the Star Spangled Banner. It sounds wrong but you will find that Phillip Malloy is a fake patriot. The plot is clear and somewhat believable. I don think that situations like that can happen in real life. There is a good flow of information throughout the whole book. So as you read you find out more info that you need to know. The books ends slightly unresolved, but it is still a good ending. The novel did maintain my attention. It was easy to read the way it is set up in document formation. The story to me seemed a bit slow. A lot of the documents seemed extremely repetitive and the book was longer than it need to be. Although the story was slow it did, while I was reading, make me go into the classrooms or house of Phillip. I like that the document formations lets you hear all of the dialogue from every character. The descriptions of the setting was untold. I Found myself making my own classrooms or house in my head to go along with the story. All of the characters seemed real to me except for Ms. Narwin, She was a little stereotypical of an English teacher. The characters actions are consistent throughout the story. And I like how the Ms. Narwin's letters to her sister let me in on what she was like outside of the teaching world. The language does match the time frame of the story. Each character did seem to have a similar pattern of speech, but it real life, people from the same place do occasionally have the same pattern of speech. The novel stays with an all knowing point of view. Overall it was a decent book and would recommend it to teachers who are educating their students on patriotism and 1st Amendment rights.

Summary: A Review
Review: I didn't enjoy reading Nothing But the Truth by Avi very much. The plot starts out somewhat believable, and all of the information regarding the situation is there. Readers definitely have enough information to understand the plot, because it's pretty simple. As the book progresses, it starts to get unbelievable. Things get way too out of hand, and the situation isn't handled properly. The story didn't maintain my attention at all; everything seemed to be repeated over and over, but the story itself moves pretty fast. The story doesn't transport readers to the time and place where it is happening, which makes the story less interesting. There are very few descriptions of anything. However, the order of events is very consistent throughout the novel. The characters don't seem real, only because the situation doesn't seem real. The main character's actions are extremely consistent. He never changes his stance or opinion on the matter. There is no profanity or any dialogue issues within the story. The story does jump around quite often, especially within the memos. It gets confusing remembering who holds which position within the school administration.

Summary: Review for Nothing But the Truth by Avi
Review: I thought this book was good with a believable plot, the story starts a little late but you are able to get all information by than. It has little notes, memos, and conversations. It's interesting because you get a lot of views on the whole story. I found the book to be a very fast read and was able to read it all in one sitting, you can get very into it. It is mostly set in a school and since most of us know what a school looks like you are able to picture the setting. All the characters are real and believable, you are able to really feel their emotions and what they're going through. I liked this book maybe not one of the best ones I have read but it does bring up good issues.

Summary: This book is not far from the truth
Review: This refreshing story of one kid's horrible day gone wrong, Avi captures the truth, the whole, so help me God. From first page to last, this book captures its audience and entertains the reader through a not-so-funny process called the American Constitution.

Phillip Malloy is a freshman in High School and suddenly finds himself tangled in a sticky web he's woven. When Phillip is suspended from school for singing the National Anthem, his family is out to protest!

Although this is a fictional story, NOTHING BUT THE TRUTH does offer some insight to what it means to fight the American corporate system. This unusual and quirky style of writing can send anyone into a douzy, but it's worth sticking out becuase in the end, it all comes down to the truth.

Summary: Nothing But The Truth is truthfully good!
Review: This novel by Avi is very good! A freshman in New Hampshire, Phillip Malloy thinks that his English teacher Miss Narwin is out to get him and he tries to provoke her. He does a great job by singing the National Anthem when there is supposed to be silence. He gets suspended from school, and then his parents fight it. He gains the support from the country and they try to provoke the school to getting rid of the teacher. To find out what happens to Phillip Malloy and Miss Narwin you have to read the book!! This plot is very believable as it seems as if it could happen to anyone, and there are newspaper articles to prove it. In some parts of the story it becomes somewhat boring, and slow but for the most part there is good pacing and it is hard to put down, because you want to find out what happens. The novel also had very realistic characters, because most teachers are like Miss Narwin, and most principal's are like Dr. Palleni and Dr. Doane. The books changes point of view and in some parts of the novel this is a good thing, but other times you really want to know what another character is thinking! If you want to experience a battle between patriotism and rules, this is the book for you!

Summary: Nothing But The Truth
Review: Nothing But The Truth gave a fictional side to the reality of real situations that occur in American society. Young Phillip Malloy was suspended for humming/singing during the daily playing of the national anthem. He was kicked out of class and this action made most of the characters in the book feel as if he was not allowed to be patriotic. This book takes a big twist down to the very last page.
