Rating: Summary: Nothing But the Truth Review: He was suspended for humming the National Anthem in his homeroom class? Yes, thats ninth grader Philip Malloy. Nothing But the Truth written by Avi is not like any other book. It is written in a very different style. This is a very good book but the pace is kind of slow. The author kind of drags out the book a little too much so it was kind of confusing. Although I like how it is written in script form. I thought it was different and interesting. I also liked how the author had a diary of Philip's point of view every now and then through out the book just so the readers know what Philip thinks about this little incident made into a big mess.
Rating: Summary: Whats the truth Review: We thought this book was good cause role playin. It wasnt like any other book we have read. It was 'bout a ninth grade boy that got caught up in his own lies. In homeroom he was humming the national anthem and was asked to stop. He didnt and so he got suspended. He told his parents that he got suspended cause he we being patriotic by singin. Some how it got in the paper and the radios all over the country. And if you want to know what happens next then you need to read it too!
Rating: Summary: Nothing but the Truth Review: Nothing but the Truth written by Avi is a very dissapointing book consisting of lies. The plot of the book was Philip Malloy, a former student, is trying to get back at his teacher, Mrs. Narwin, whose class exam he happened to fail. Because Phillip failed his exam, he can not try out for the track team. Philip makes a huge scene about the issue and starts to hum the "Star Spangeled Banner". Like an average kid, Philip makes up a story that he was singing the "Star Spangeled Banner" rather than humming it when his parents find out he has been suspended! After he his transfered to a private school and his teacher is dismissed, Philip finaly admits he does not know the words!!!! I personally do not like this book. I gave the book two stars because the dialogue is written in script form. It can be hard to follow. The book's whole plot is dumb. The child, Philip Malloy, simply lies. His lie is spread all around the U.S. In the end, the teacher is dissmissed and Philip goes to private school. That's it! This book is very boring and you would have to be a big fan of Avi's to like this book.
Rating: Summary: Nothing But The Truth Review: Nothing But The Truth by Avi was not my favorite book. It had a interesting way of writing such as letters to and from characters or a dialogue written in a play form. I enjoy his style very much, but the ending soon fell short. The boy tells about a young boy, Philip, who hums during the moring tape of "The Star Spangled Banner" which at his school is disrespectful and against the rules. He is then suspended by his teacher Ms.Narwin, who he dislikes very much. After he is suspended the issue is blown out of porportion and many people pay attention to this what used to be a small size issue. I enjoyed the starting of the book which had a fun attention grabber, but the ending soon fell short. The book also had the same plot and talked about the same thing or issue the intire story. In all, I disliked this book.
Rating: Summary: My Review Review: I read this book last year (in tenth grade) for a school assignment. We were allowed to choose the book and I chose this one because I thought two of Avi's other books, S.O.R. LOSERS and ROMEO AND JULIET: TOGETHER AND ALIVE AT LAST were hilarious. This book was sort of funny, but not THAT funny. It was just okay. It was really exaggerated and unrealistic. It ended pretty abruptly. But it wasn't terrible. The characters were realistic, but you didn't really get to know most of them at all. I didn't really like the way Avi seemed to take the teacher's side instead of the kid's. I thought maybe I would like this book because it's about a kid my age who hates the books he has to read in English class. (I always hate the books we read in English class. LORD OF THE FLIES is the worst book in the entire world.) This book didn't really have a point, though, except to show how a small situation can become exaggerated and turn into a big deal.
Rating: Summary: Why the national anthem Review: The book was bad i didnt have any inteest and i am 14 and had to read the book for school and this is not what happens in the "school life." the book just focused on one very tiny boring topic the whole time the national anthem and how philip got in trouble for singing it can a book get any more boring. To give your own opnion read the book and see for yourself and then think about it. But if your an Avi fan of her other great books dont get your hopes up for this one.
Rating: Summary: Fantasy Lovers Stay Away Review: Nothing But the Truth by Avi is a pretty bad book for book fans. Especially those who love fantasy like me. I didn't like this book because you got jumbled around and everything went out of order with the useless information. I thought it had a boring plot. It didn't even have a plot in my perspective. I would recommened this to someone who is out of books and only as a last resort but if you are a fantasy lover or have other books keep reading those. Avi isn't a bad writer. I've read S.O.R Losers and Crispin the cross of lead and those where much better so you could try them. Nothing But the Truth by Avi is a pretty bad book for book fans. Rating: Summary: this book is only a last resort Review: I'll write about the book first okay. It's about a boy named Philip Malloy who is in 9th grade in new hampshire and he doesn't get on the track team because Narwin failes him. So he starts ticken her off and one time he hums the National Anthem and is sent to the principals office and then the whole school board gets involed and Philip says he SANG it and then he is trannsffered and it gets really confusing. I'm only ten and i don't know much but i read a lot. I've read 31 books in two months and there are certaintly better books. I really don't like it because it is really confusin(not to mention boring) and i wouldn't ever recommend this book to a friend.

Rating: Summary: The worst book I ever read Review: I didn't exactly like the book. It was very confusing to me. It took a while to get into the story. When we finally got into the story, it seemed like it said the same thing over and over again except in a diffrent way. I don't want to read another book that this author has writen ever again.
